Feb 28, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —- The Office of SPLM/SPLA in Opposition Chapter in Perth, Western Australia together with its registered members, supporters, and IO well-wishers strongly condemn the February 17 and 18, 2016 clashes in UNMISS PoC’s site in Upper Nile State capital, Malakal. Malakal clashes were unprovoked assault by the government forces and militia groups who hailed from Dinka tribe of President Salva Kiir who planned and executed the attacks on unarmed Shilluk and Nuer civilians in the camp killing at least 18 and wounding more than 80 others.
It has come to our opinion that the state’s military caretaker Governor of Malakal, Mr Chol Thon Balok should directly be held responsible for planning and directing the attack to inflict fear and terror on ethnic Shilluk who were preparing to leave the camp with the hope of returning to their ancestral land (Malakal) which has already been offered and occupied by Dinka Padang of President Salva Kiir. Similar attacks happened in April 2014 when government forces and militias targeted Nuer civilians in UNMISS camp of Upper Nile State capital Malakal and Bentiu where thousands of Nuer ethnic group specially girls and women were raped while young boys and men were maimed and burn alive.
We also note that in February 2016 in Western Bahr el Ghazal state’s capital Wau, government’s forces of SPLA backed their armed Dinka ethnic youth and massacred unarmed innocent civilian from Fertit and Balanda tribes, torched their huts, looted property and displaced thousands into the forest who are still hiding for fear of being attack and kill.
Further, heinous attacks and crimes have been taking place in Greater Equatoria region, mainly perpetrated by well-armed Dinka youth herders who are backed by their kin in the SPLA forces with the aim of intimidating, looting and displacing peaceful communities in Equatoria.
The office of SPLM/A In Opposition Chapter of Perth Western Australia is urging the IGAD, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), European Union (EU) and Troika countries such as United States, United Kingdom and Norway to take action against these human rights violations by the notorious elements in President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s crumbling regime. More importantly, IO strongly urging the Chairman of Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) Festus Mogae to exercise appropriately effective pressure on President Salva Kiir Mayardit and his lawless forces to respect all signed document of peace agreement and implementation.
Yours in struggle,
Signed, —KM—————————————————————
