April 07, 2014(Nyamilepedia) — The allied forces, comprising of the Sudanese rebels backing the troubled government of South Sudan, had attacked areas in Unity State. The main target was Mayom county, the largest town to the North West of Unity state. Mayom lies in the Block 4 oil concession to the south of the Kaikang oilfield, which Machar forces control.

According to a statement released by the SPLM-IO military spokesman, Brig. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang, “Kiir’s forces launched coordinated attacks on our positions in Mayom and Koc Counties”.

“The anti-democratic and genocidal forces left unimaginable trail of destruction after attacking Chotcharah, Tanyier Gardeng, Lare and Gotni villages west and south of Mayom County.” Koang continued.

Gen. Koang also confirmed that the government forces have burned down Buaw and Pakur payams of Koch. According to the SPLA/M [in opposition], this is a clear violation to the Ceasefire signed but never implemented in January.

“Kiir’s forces and Allies escalation of the conflict is a clear violation of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement and confirms government’s belief in military solution.”Koang said.

“The SPLA/M [in Opposition] condemns in the strongest terms possible repeated violations and reserves the right to fight in self-defense whenever attacked anywhere in the country.”Gen. Koang continued.

In a related news report, the Sudanese air force has bombed Pariang County, North of Unity State. Pariang county is home to the Rueng Dinka —the only Dinka group in the state. Pariang was first hit by war, in this conflict, on 20 December, when about 400 SPLA troops defected to Machar. The county was later reclaimed by the Darfurians, the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), backing the government of Salva Kiir.

The locals of Pariang have reported the Sudanese bombers, comprising of Antonov and 4 MiG jets, were seen hovering and bombing indiscriminately on Monday between 9:00am and 12 noon. No casualties have been reported yet, but the report confirmed the bombers dropped at least 10 bombs, destroying one care and creating panic.

The motives of the Sudanese bombers behind the attack is not known. However, there are mixed feelings that the Sudan government could be hunting their rebels, the JEM and SPLM-North who are fighting for the South Sudanese president.

The two presidents met last week to mend their shaky bilateral relations, following a series of accusations over Abyei attacks. The main agenda, however, was not the Abyei security but helping the Juba government protect its oilf fields. Bashir also had a fruitful peace talk with the Darfur rebels, facilitated in Chad, between 25-28 March. And on the other note, Bashir has also ordered the release of political prisoners in his country.

In a different report, Brig. Gen. Koang reported that the government troops have recaptured Tonga Payam, in Panyikang County in Upper Nile state.

“a combined force comprising of two battalions from JEM and SPLA-North Fighters and 3 Battalions from Kiir’s anti-democratic forces had been attacking our forces in Tonga Payam, Panyikang County in Upper Nile State in the last three days”. Koang said.

“The attacking forces re-occupied the area on 5th April after our forces conducted well planed and organised tactical withdrawal.” Gen. Koang reported.
