Press Release N0.52
April 24, 2014(Addis Ababa) — The Gallant SPLA Forces under direct command of Brig. Gen. Chegai Gatluak and under overall command of Maj. Gen. Gabriel Tangiye finally took full control of Administrative HQs of Renk County, in Upper Nile State.
Our forces triumphantly marched on Renk town on 23-4-2014 after overcoming little resistance. The fall of Renk, the bread basket of Upper Nile State and the gateway to neighboring Republic of Sudan leaves government troops trapped in Malakal with no supply & escape routes and paves the way for our Forces to capture Paloich Oil Fields within days.
The SPLA/SPLM once again renews calls for oil companies to stop production and evacuate staff/employees to avoid being caught in crossfire.
Still in Upper Nile State, Kiir’s Forces suffered heavy material losses on 21-4-2014 after their futile attempts to advance on our positions at Dolief Hills in Panyikang County were foiled. The following equipment and armaments were captured:
- Six RPGs
- One  82MM
- Forty Seven PKM light machine guns
- One Toyota Land cruiser mounted with 12.7 and one Urol mounted with Zu 23 and
- Four Lorries.
In Jonglei State, our forces under direct command of Maj. Gen. Dor Manjur and under overall command of Maj. Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual continue to make territorial gains as they match on Bor.
On 23-4-2014, our forces overran Werenyol in Twic East County after successfully defeating government troops and UPDF units that were attempting to regain control of Duk County.  The attacking forces fled in disarray after losing 238 servicemen and 220 different types of weapons including the latest CQ5.56MM automatic rifle.
While our forces are making steady military gains with political leadership getting strengthened on daily basis, Kiir’s Military Leadership is unraveling. The removal of Chief of General Staff, Gen. James Hoth Mai and Director of Military Intelligence, Maj. Gen. Mac Paul and their subsequent replacements by Lt. Gen. Paul Malong Awan and Maj. Gen. Marial Nuor, the architects of Salva’s private militia and masterminds of Juba Massacre marks the beginning of an imminent bloodbath, escalation and regionalization of the conflict( perfectly pitting Greater Bahr El Ghazal against Greater Upper Nile State).
By removing Generals James and Mac, Kiir has finally Unplugged the last safety valve and glue that had partially kept together his faltering regime in the last four months.
Brig. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang,
Military Spokesperson for SPLA/SPLM in Opposition.
