April 21, 2014(Nyamilepedia)  — Latest reports from Abiemnom, Unity state, allege that SPLA troops loyal to Juba administration blew up Abiemnom bridge. The strategic bridge, which links Unity to Warrap state, has been among the main targets in the past, including during the 2012 Heglig war between the neighboring Sudans.

However, according to the International Law, it is a war crime to “attack willfully anything that is not a legitimate military target”.

SPLA soldiers disguised as peaceful demonstrator attacked a UN base in Bor, Jonglei state, last week, killing over 100 unarmed civilians in custody of UNMISS, a terrorist act that provoked the international community. The United Nations has condemned the attack as a war crime.

SPLA soldiers deserted Unity state in the last one week as the anti-government troops extend their grasp of the oil rich greater Upper Nile region. Following their last defeat at Mayom county this morning, the SPLA troops retreating from the neighboring Abiemnom county, have reportedly destroyed the civilians infrastructure citing fear of growing panic in the neighboring Warrap state.

Abiemnom is in the extreme northeast of Unity state, South Sudan. It borders Abyei, Warrap state to the Northwest and Sudan’s Southern Kordofan to the North. The town is inhabited by the Nuer majority with Dinka minority.

Following the split of division 4 in December, Abiemnom was used as a base by the loyal SPLA forces under Lt. Gen Jok Riak, who broke ranks with Maj. Gen James Koang Chuol in December.

Lt. Gen. Jok massed his reinforcing troops from Division 3 and Division 5 in Abiemnom in late December. He later moved his centers to Bentiu town after it was recaptured by the allied forces comprising of JEM, SSLA, SPLA and SPLA-North.

Lt. Gen Jok Riak and other SPLA generals were narrowly rescued by Gen. Mathew Puljang, the SSLA rebel commander backing the government. Some were airlifted to Juba while others retreated to Warrap state.

Breaking down the bridge is not the solution to prevent rebels to liberate the remaining territories, there are so many entrance to Bhar elghazal. Rebels are respecting the national infrastructure while the govt is the one destroying.

It is indeed unfortunate for Kir’s Soldiers to destroy this important and economic lifeline bridge with Republic of Sudan. It was built with National resources for the very benefit of South Sudanese Citizens. Kir and his thugs must pay for this terrible destruction of South Sudanese infrastructure.

its realty to absurd to hear that… so if the government is doing so what will the rebels be doing.. instead the rebels are respecting the infrastructure but the government is destroying the infrastructure … this initials that we have failed to protect out resources .. may be it is a directives from the president … he has the money to reconstruct the bridge lets see…
what about if the rebels start to destroy the bridges ……will the government also complain that their infrastructure is being destroyed…..

comrades lets see…….
