May 23, 2014(Nyamilepedia) — Following the peace agreement signed between the South Sudanese leaders, Salva Kiir and Dr. Riek Machar on May 9, Machar is expected to tour the region as Marial goes to Russia.
Last week, Yohannes Musa Puok, the SPLM/A [in opposition] spokesperson, announced that Machar will visit Sudan, Kenya, Djibouti and Somalia these weeks.
“Machar will give a briefing on the peace talks between the South Sudan government and the SPLM/A-in-opposition to the leaders of the respective countries [he visits],” Yohannes Musa told Anadolu Agency.
Today, a high delegation has arrived in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, to arrange Machar’s arrival. Dr. Riek is expected to meet with the Sudanese government.
Khartoum, has shown neutrality in the six months conflicts, despite aggressive behaviours of its rebels and Uganda in the neighbouring state.
In a different report, the Foreign Affairs Minister, Marial Benjamin, who is expected to visit Moscow this week believes that Machar’s visit to Khartoum should be organized through the offices of the two foreign ministers for peace and stability between the neighbouring Sudans.
Marial is expected to arrive in Moscow tomorrow, Saturday, as scheduled by the Russian foreign Affairs Minister, Sergei Lavrov.
Russia differed with other veto members in March, on South Sudan sanctions, arguing that sanctions could compromise peace process.
Russian’s Deputy UN Ambassador Alexander Pankin warns the United States that “sanctions should be addressed extremely warily and cautiously.” Extensive experience with such punishments showed “they are far from a panacea because they can undermine the spirit of co-operation.”
On a different mission, a delegation led by Kuol Manyang Juuk, the minister of Defence and Maj Gen Kuol Deng Abot, the Director General of Ministry of Defence, arrived in Kampala. The delegation is expected to spend two days in Uganda to accomplish the mission. Kuol expresses his gratitudes to the people of Uganda and the government of Yoweri Museveni for their continued support of Juba government.
