April 03, 2014(Nyamilepedia) — This is a military camp in the city of Nassir in South Sudan, Nasir County is an administrative area in Upper Nile state, South Sudan .What was once a camp occupied by the government army of South Sudan is now, one of the major strongholds of the militant faction of South Sudan. It is here that we met the rebel leader Riek Machar. A man who was once the second top in command in the administration of Juba’s government, now leads an army against the government.

He is opposed to the idea of forming an interim government in South Sudan, an aspect that IGAD, the regional bloc mediating peace talks, has on agenda for discussion. An interim arrangement means planning for political reforms, deciding the members of an interim government and deciding for how long it will operate.Machar says that IGAD needs to realize that without solving the challenges in the ruling party’s administration, which are the root causes of the ongoing conflict, no effort will bring normalcy to South Sudan.

Meanwhile, the government of South Sudan says that before any further discussions are made on any government reforms, a total ceasefire agreement must reached between the warring factions. For now as the South Sudan peace talks in Ethiopia continue to drag, the armed struggle on the ground continues as the rebels vow to continue occupying strategic areas in South Sudan.

The rebel faction led by former vice president of South Sudan Riek Machar , says it has the ability to take over Juba, despite the presence of the Ugandan troops in the state. For now the return of peace to South Sudan still hangs in a balance as the rebel faction says it will continue reacting according to government’s response to its demands.
