May 13, 2014(Vancouver, British Columbia) — Dr. Machar had one of the best receptions in Addis Ababa for the first time in 6 months. Like a hero, and surely is, Machar was received by his mediating team, former detainees, the regional leaders, his friends and his supporters. He sat down for only 30 minutes to be briefed by his negotiating team.
Although he wished, Machar couldn’t afford more than 30 minutes with only one group. He had a busy recipe, so many good things to be accomplished in just half a day. It was more than a picnic but a political one.
For the first time, Machar tasted the fruit of his five months struggle. One of the things that motivates him to fight on was to free his friends in the struggle, the senior SPLM officials who were collected from their homes and thrown in prison for no reason other than to see Salva Kiir rules for 100 years. A good wish but a bad luck!
It would suffice, however, that the topic for now shouldn’t have been rethinking how to stay in power because what would reforming means to an inclusive government? I guess the “rebels” were sleeping, otherwise, postponing an election is a violation of the agreement per se! (…)
