China seeks bigger footprint in South Sudan

June 24, 2014(Nyamilepedia) — “China hold a discussion over two billions dollars loan to the government too. In theory, these initiatives give China more influence here” Anita McNaught reports.

The UN has peacekeepers in 16 missions around the world including in South Sudan.

China has agreed to help in that young nation’s security, promising to contribute 850 soldiers.

It is all part of a plan to protect Chinese commercial interests in South Sudan – oil in particular.

Al Jazeera’s Anita McNaught reports from the South Sudanese capital of Juba.
