SPLM-IO Women’s League/USA Congratulates Machar On His 1st VP Appointment

Feb 15, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —- We would like to extend our salutatory message to H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny for his appointment as the First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan. The appointment of Dr. Riek Machar by the President Kiir is a significant step toward the implementation of IGAD Peace Agreement. However, the Women’s League would like to seize this opportunity to remind President Kiir to take extraordinary measures to stamp out all obstacles that impede the implementation of peace such as delay in constitutional amendment, demilitarization of Juba, unilateral insisting of creation 28 states, hindrances of humanitarian access to the needy population in the areas hit hard by the conflict and formation of the Government of National Unity as stipulated in the peace agreement.

More importantly, the Women’s League office would like to congratulate H.E. Dr. Riek Machar for his well-deserved appointment which we think would bring peace and stability in the country as well as it is the beginning of the road towards transformation and democratic rule in the country. The people of South Sudan have been deprived of their rights to enjoy the freedom of hard won independence under a regime of dictatorship of self- imposed Dinka Council of Elders (Jieng) who took over the work of National Assembly to expand their interests over the interests of South Sudanese.

With a positive new page in our history, we would like to see economic reforms, service delivery and security reforms where South Sudanese will coexist peacefully and live with one another as one people without them being level on their tribes, religious or political affiliations. The Women’s League Office therefore, would like to wish H.E. Dr. Riek successful in all endeavors.
