Our Leaders’ Old Grudges Must Die For South Sudan To Live

By Chuar Juet Jock,

President Salva Kiir Mayardit and 1st VP Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon

April 18, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —- With the return of Dr. Machar to Juba today April 18, 2016, we hope that the sad bloody chapter that started on Dec 15, 2013, is about to close and a bright dawn, a peaceful era for South Sudan and its suffering people is about to start.

In 2002, a similar sad chapter that started in 1991 was abruptly and inadequately closed between the late Dr. Garang and Dr. Machar and eleven years later, the old grudges and accounts power and tribal rivalry were unearthed again to be used against the same man, Dr. Machar by his same arch rivals within the liberation movement turned destruction movement. Well, this clearly tells us that, we don’t have to fool ourselves that much because; the same grudges, the hatred accounts and the same men of all sort of rivalries are all but here. Only if these leaders of old grudges are completely born again and decided to commit themselves to build a brighter future and reality for their country, nation, and the future generations and leave without a regret, these old grudges and hatred that is haunting them and the whole nation of South Sudan.

Well, I am not being pessimistic but rather than being realistic and arguing that we receive and welcome the new era of this relative peace ushered by the expected return of Dr. Machar simply because I think Dr. Machar is still a prime target of his old rivals and whether we decided to close our eyes to that bitter reality, it won’t change a thing. Neither I am trying to indulge you into fears and suspicions that won’t help us in the process of reconciliation and healing, regaining the broken trust and the fading confident rather than I am here, cautioning you that not everything in this peace agreement and its era that is about to begin is a milk and honey. Well, I think behaving responsibly, vigilance and caution are all but needed throughout the course of this peace agreement.

Those who may want again to hunt in the dirty political waters of South Sudan, those who haven’t learned a thing from the conflict of Dec 15, 2013, and whose tribal ego and prejudice won’t hesitate to irresponsibly pull a trigger of fire, here and there, and for reasons of that and this, needs to know one thing that this time and around, the conflict has gone behind Reik Machar and Salva Kiir or Gen. Malong Awan and Gen. Gatwech Dual but as we have seen throughout this conflict, it’s the people of South Sudan that have paid so dearly and it is South Sudan that has been destroyed.

One fundamental reason that brought Dec 15, 2013, conflict was the notion of enormous disrespect to 2002 accord in the person of Dr. Reik Machar by the then Torit faction block. The 2002 accord was regarded and wrongly presumed as a mere gentleman agreement rather than an institution based agreement with a political and military backing establishments and that by the death of Gen. Paulino Matip Nhial, the imprisoning of Both G. Gatwech Dual, Gen. Gabriel Tanginy, Gen. Mabor Doal, and firing of Dr. Machar from his VP post, the then Torit faction that showers itself always with fake patriotism decided that it is now the time to show its real self and that it is time to trash the “traitors” and bring in the “patriots” and that’s for Mr. Igga to be brought in the line to be the possible hire of the throne from the incumbent president Salva Kiir, unfortunately, the plan as projected didn’t work leave alone that it almost have destroyed South Sudan and within days if not hours, Reik Machar, the rejected stone, will become again, the cornerstone for the unity of this country. Well, then the conspiracy in its entirety, will have to crumble and flatter like no other.

Well, we know and very well that with the return of Dr. Machar, the conspiracy is far from over and that , the Juba disguised, underground mafia and anti-peace groups are but up, tirelessly working again to undermine our peace, stability and prosperity again. Hell, we shall sleep and the enemies of South Sudan are awake, working day and night to undermine the peace of its people, the future of its young generations, and its potential of being the Dubai of Africa. Hell, we shall sleep to let the political opportunist makes fortunes and build castles with the blood and skulls of our innocent people. Hell, we shall sleep. Welcome back Dr. Machar and to South Sudan and her beautiful people be the peace and prosperity.

The 1991’s split isn’t a grudge. It failed to overthrow Dr John Garang and it didn’t bring Garang down from his leadership to pursue struggle for freedom. It gave Khartoum upper hand in military as Dr Riek Machar’s forces were used to clear Dinka population in Upper Nile in order to build oil facilities which were responsible for Sudan’s purchasing of advanced weapons, munitions and warplanes but Dr Garang still did well militarily and struck a peace deal which split South from Sudan. No body held any bad feelings against Dr Machar for that. If there is a grudge that might have been against him, it was the massacre of Bor Dinka civilians. The massacre wasn’t held against him, but the fact he was going to use a military that was 70% his tribe to get power as was indicated by the way he and his cohorts’ were undermining the president, that made it alone a wake up call to prevent him from repeating the same incident.

The SPLM Torit have never been fake patriots. They fought none other than Khartoum regimes from day one until the independence is achieved. They never went off that track.

Dr Riek’s bullets of 1991 against Dinkas and his 1997’s peace agreement with Khartoum didn’t liberate most major towns around Juba, Yirol,Rumbek, Tony, Gogrial, Warawar,Thiet and Raja between 1996 and 1997.His forces were never on the ground fighting in those areas but those whom the author called fake patriots. Dr machar was no signatory to the 2002 Kenya’s peace agreement which brought the independence of South Sudan. It begs questions how he has actually created South Sudan. His agreement with Khartoum was dishonored and failed.
He had no forces fighting Khartoum when he was with Khartoum. Finally, he was not a part of the negotiating team and signatory to the peace accord which brought the independence of South Sudan.

Tolio,

I beg to differ with your assertion that, Dr. Riek Machar, was not a part of the negotiating team of CPA that led South Sudan independence in 2011. For your information, Dr. Riek Machar, negotiated the security arrangements protocol in the CPA. Try to be fair and objective and offer credit where it’s due. Our country will survive and thrive only, when we abandon tribal allegiance in our national political life.

Dr Garang made a coup against Anyanya II groups prior to inception of SPLA/M. So don’t talk about coups like you never plotted one. A successful one intact. It is exactly what made liberation for independence nearly impossible. Tolio, you need to stop pushing out lies about 91. It was a split in objectives of the struggle in which Macho been exonerated by an independent sovereign South Sudan. Yes in that split there were losses just like any other quarrel. What you Jaang are destroying the country over right now has nothing to do with national objective but it is purely tribal ideology seeking to tribally and dominated South Sudan by marginalized other tribes and Nuers just happened to be the hurdle in your path. Stop lying you peace shit. Blackmailing Nuers using 91 will not bring a Jaang kingdom anywhere in this planet let alone South Sudan.it will never happened.
