August 13, 2014(Nyamilepedia) — We, the South Sudanese in the State of Washington, USA, met on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 1PM Pacific Time and debated on various issues concerning the ongoing political crises in South Sudan. We debated on the root causes that brought the civil war to our country which had already claimed thousands of lives, and displaced more than 1.3 million people.
Prior to December 2013, President Salva Kiir recruited and trained his 15,000 private militia exclusively from his own tribe. These Salva Kiir militias don’t speak other national and localized languages except Dinka. On Dec 15, 2013 when the fighting broke out at night, Mr. Kiir gave a green light to his own 15,000 militia men to go from door to door killing innocent Nuer civilians including women, children and the elderly in Juba mainly from Gudela, Manga, and 107 neighborhoods. This killing continued in other states like what happened in Upper Nile, Jonglei and Unity States, targeting and killing only the Nuers, while Kiir Mayardit continue to enjoy the killings thinking that this will subdue the Nuer and will make him rule unquestioned for life, while the country continue to suffer.
Therefore, we found that President Salva Kiir has become a deadly dictator who rules the country by decrees. He has promoted corruption, tribalism, nepotism and personal interest, leaving the country with no choice except to suffer and look for a new leader to redirect the country, which he wouldn’t like to happen. He kills whoever is critical about his administration and who are concerned about the problems in our country today.
Moreover, unfair allocation of the national resources and governmental positions which are awarded to those who are relatives or personal supporters of Kiir; creates imbalances of power among our multi-ethnic and multi-cultural society with more than 64 or 68 ethnic groups that could not be dominated by one single tribe or clan like the one Kiir is imposing.
After careful analysis and consideration of the obtaining situation in our country, we have arrived at a conclusion that the solution to this war is for President Salva Kiir to step aside peacefully and allow the country to reconcile without him. But Kiir’s beating of the drums of war and his refusal to resign peacefully, has left the people’s movement and its patriotic and visionary leadership with no other recourse except the pursuance of armed resistance in order to emancipate our suffering people from his tyranny and unjust rule.
As concerned citizens of South Sudan, we are alarmed and troubled by the way innocent civilians are killed and still being terrorized and killed by Salva’s militia in our country. The above mentioned defection in the State of Washington, USA, is well-considered and resolved by the majority of the South Sudanese living in Washington State. We therefore declare that the SPLM chapter has now switched allegiance to the people’s movement, the SPLM in Opposition on Saturday, August 9, 2014. Salva Kiir Mayardit has no right to represent all the South Sudanese people any longer. Henceforth, we undoubtedly fully support the leadership of our chairman and future leader of South Sudan, Dr. Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon.
