Feb 25, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — The SPLM have launched its mission to the United States by convening its first ever official meeting of its executive members on Saturday 21 February 2015, at Omaha, Nebraska, under the leadership of its official Representative Hon. Reath Muoch Tang.

The newly formed SPLM mission office comprised of strong, energetic and vibrant members. The Representative, Hon. Reath, updated the meeting about the current developments in the movement especially the peace process, and explained the mandate of the SPLM mission office, as well as roles, job descriptions, and clarified relationships between the mission departments.

The meeting have also tackled a variety of issues including building of robust networks, and setting up of its official office in Washington, D.C., in order to promote the mission and objectives of the SPLM; by engaging the U.S. government and other parties of interest.

The SPLM mission executive have reiterated its unwavering commitment to the peaceful resolution of the South Sudanese conflict.

The meeting further affirmed that the SPLM does not view the war as an option to the resolution of the country’s crisis, but rather this war was imposed on the people of South Sudan by the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardit due to its repressive and genocidal policies. However, the SPLM will reserve the right to fight in self- defense if aggressed by the government forces.

The Mission have also discussed the issue of building a strong network of South Sudanese to support the SPLM, and further discussed ways to contribute to the IGAD led peace process by offering its ideas to the leadership on the ground.

The mission is also cognizant of the popular demand of the people of South Sudan for a federal system of governance and total reform in all the government sectors, and is also aware of their call for accountability for those who committed crimes against the people of South Sudan.

Moreover, the mission office will also embark on a mass campaign to educate all the South Sudanese communities in the U.S. about the vision, mission and objectives of the SPLM; with a goal to engage them as important stakeholders in the resolution of the country’s crisis.
