South Sudan: Obama Should Support Arms Embargo

29 Groups Urge US to Press for UN Action,

Source: Human Right Watch:

NGOsindexJan 8, 2015(Nyamilepedia) – US President Barack Obama should call for and support a comprehensive United Nations arms embargo on the parties to South Sudan’s brutal conflict, 29 South Sudanese and international human rights, humanitarian, and other groups said today in a letter to President Obama. Thousands of civilians have been killed in the conflict, which began just over a year ago, in many cases targeted for their ethnicity or perceived political allegiances. An estimated 1.9 million people have been displaced, and massive looting and burning by both government and opposition forces has left towns and rural areas destroyed and abandoned.

“More weapons will mean more fuel to the fire, more attacks on civilians, arbitrary killings, rape, burnings and pillage,” said Geoffrey Duke, secretariat team leader at the South Sudan Action Network on Small Arms. “President Obama should do everything he can to ensure that this year is not a repeat of the horrific last year for South Sudanese. Now is the time to take action.”

South Sudan’s conflict looks set to continue, and the organizations are concerned that further crimes under international law and serious human rights violations and abuses are likely.

Nongovernmental organizations have been calling for an arms embargo on South Sudan since early 2014. The US is responsible for drafting resolutions and statements on South Sudan at the UN Security Council.

Attention:- AGUMUT
Your name sounds like an intelligence in Nuer “Gumut plus A”
The peace that you are talking of is not the opposition supposed to come up with.
This is Dinka Kiir Mayardit who kills Nuer women and children in Juba. The civilian that are kills in Juba? Only the person who kills women and children to apology and leaves the system of the Government. Dr. Riek Machar has nothing to do with the war.

The war was Uganda president and Kiir Mayardit who Kills late Dr. John Garang. Dr. Riek had nothing to Do with the war. Dr. Riek has #137 family members and 37 unarm guard who was kills in his house. The Uganda was trying to do what he done in Rwanda. Not knowing about Sudanese
learns people from your culture. It is a matter of time. 270,000.00 was never kills by any Nation in Nuer begin from 1642-1805 Turkey and Britain war
Thank you
Pete

Please our people will not support Riek Machar again,as they have done that to John Garang and later Garang became the great evil. Deadly coup was going on in Juba. How could Riek Hacked his own constitution and his Government? What is the differences between Vice President and President? We want another Nuer, but not deadly and greedy of power like Riek Machar. ( I remembered Julian Assange and Edward Snowden,it is the same with him/get lost or disappeared). Instead of self-esteem let him bring peace to suffering and barefooted people of Nuer.

Dr.John Garang and Dr.Riek Machar had destroyed our future and he should understand that. I have doubt with Machar PHD, i think his career should have been banned long time ago.

addition to that in 1991Riek carried out genocide in Bor alone he has to be punished with that crime he has been committed against one community

Riek Machar in Juba was like a baby,Garang left those secret Hacking networks to him. Why Mabior and his mam joined him because they know what they were doing. How South Sudan going to function without communications net workers even Machar become president?
