October 28, 2014(Nyamilepedia) — Latest reports from the Upper Nile State’s capital, Malakal, confirm that an Inter-tribal fighting at the UNMISS compound has left, at least, one person dead and multiple others injured.
According to the internally displaced persons at the site, the fight broke out between the Nuer and the Chollo (Shilluck) tribes, a report that has been independently verified by Nyamilepedia’s correspondents.
According to the correspondents, who have monitored the situation, tension has engulfed the UN base for days following the recent disappearances and kidnappings of targeted members of Nuer Ethnic group.
The UN mission in the country is reportedly making attempts to separate and regroup the IDPs on gender bases and age to reduce chances of further encounters.
The IDPs in Malakal have fought among themselves in the past, leaving scores dead, however, the UNMISS has made attempts to restore peace in the camps.
Latest reports on the kidnapping of World Food Programme (WFP) employee, Mark Diang, however, has put the UNMISS mandate in the country on test.

Fighting in Juba, UN Base, Leaves over 60 IDPs injured
According to the latest reports of the United Nations, more than 60 civilians were injured on Sunday, 26th October, after fighting broke out at the IDPs site next to the United Nations House on the outskirts of Juba, South Sudan, the UN spokesperson reports.
The United Nation Mission in South Sudan(UNMISS) has confirmed that, at least four IDPs were seriously injured and “two” UN peacekeepers sustained minor injuries.
The UNMISS peacekeepers fired warning shots and tear gas to halt the clashes. Latest reports confirm that calm has been restored at the UN base in Juba.
“By late afternoon yesterday [Sunday], however, the situation was brought under control,” said UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric at a press briefing.
“The Mission is investigating the cause of the rioting, and two suspects have been detained by UN Police on suspicion of allegedly instigating the violence,” he added.
According to the IDPs, reached by Nyamilepedia’s correspondents, the fight was instigated by suspected case of “adultery”.

Similar case of inter-tribal fighting broke out between the Dinka and the Nuer refugees in Kakuma Refugees camp at about 5pm on Sunday, 26th October. By Tuesday afternoon, 9 refugees are believed dead, however, the Kenyan polices intervened, firing bullets and tear gas to separate the warring sides.
The report further claims that a boy, was unfortunately, hit by a stray bullet during the warning shots campaign to separate the warring tribes. Our correspondents confirmed that he has been rushed to Kakuma hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
According to the UNHCR spokesperson, Emmanuel Nyabera, the United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees(UNHCR) and the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) are working closely with the Kenyan police to restore calm.
