Sept 29, 2014(Nyamilepedia) — According to Brig. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang, the director for military information and military spokesman for SPLA(Opposition), the government troops under overall command of Sector Two Commander, Lt. Gen. Johnson Gony Beliu have been deliberately shelling Humanitarian Relief Centres.

Brig Lul reports that the SPLA-Juba shelled the humanitarian centers in Pigi county on 27th and 28th September 2014.

“On 27th and 28th September 2014, Kamel Relief Distribution Centre in Pigi County, Jonglei State came under heavy barrage of artillery and mortar fires from government troops at Dolief Hills on eastern bank of Sobat River.” Lul said.

“Two days of shelling disrupted registration of new group of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) distribution of regular food rations, Therapeutic foods and None Food Items (NFIs).” Lul continued.

Brig. Lul believes that the deliberate and indiscriminate shelling has directly and indirectly put at risk the lives of humanitarian aid workers, noticeably those working for WFP, UNICEF and Nile Hope at Kamel.

“It’s unfortunate that government troops decided to disrupt food distributions in order to subject IDPs to destitution and state of despair” Lul decry the shelling.

Pigi county is controlled by the opposition. The loyal troops have made attempts to capture the town, inhabited by dinka ethnic group, however, to a little success.

In July Brig. Lul reported a fight in Mareng village of Pigi county, as SPLA-Juba crossed Sobat river from the side of Malakal, however, rebels defeated the troops and maintained control of the town.

“Government Forces under overall command of Sector Two Commander, Lt. Gen. Johnson Gony Beliu crossed over to Southern side of Sobat River, attacked Mareng village in Pigi County of State killing four civilians, three Dinka women, one elderly man and wounded two others. Kiir’s forces stole an estimated 55 cows. However, the Resistance Forces under direct command of Maj. Gen. James Mabor Dhoal ambushed the attackers, repulsed them back to Malakal town and recovered the stolen animals which have been since returned to thier rightful owners”  Lul’s reported in July.

On 15 September 2014, Hon. Wilson Awol Gai-jang, who represents Pigi County in Jonglei state government reports that his people live in a “hotline” as all the exit routes are blocked by the SPLA-IO forces.

“Our people are being blocked by rebel fighters. All borders of Pigi County are in control of SPLA defectors or their supporters. People in Atar or Khorfulus cannot come out of that disaster because they are being killed should they attempt to escape. It is also clear that nobody from outside can get into those areas. It is already a hotline,” Awol stressed.
