Sept 16, 2014(JUBA) – War-torn South Sudan has banned all foreign workers – including aid workers – and ordered they be replaced by locals, an official notice said on Tuesday.
“All non-governmental organisations, private companies, banks, insurance companies, telecommunication companies, petroleum companies, hotels and lodges working in South Sudan are directed to notify all the aliens working with them in all the positions to cease working as from 15th October,” said a government statement, published in several newspapers.
The order said the organisations and companies should advertise the positions – ranging from receptionists to executive directors – so that they can be filled by “competent South Sudanese nationals”.
The impending expulsion of foreign workers comes despite warnings that the country, gripped by civil war for the past nine months, is on the brink of famine.
South Sudan is also heavily dependent on a network of international aid groups for humanitarian topamax usa online assistance for 1.3 million people who have been internally displaced by the conflict.
The international NGO Global Witness, which campaigns to prevent natural resource-related conflict and corruption, said the order was “disturbing”.
“It is disturbing that the South Sudanese government is attempting to expel trained aid workers at a time of a grave humanitarian crisis,” the group said.
“The decision demonstrates a total disregard for the lives of the 1.3 million citizens displaced by this oil-fuelled conflict,” it said, adding that the government “risks crippling the economy”.
South Sudan suffers from a major shortage of skilled workers, with only around a quarter of the population being able to read and write.
Fighting broke out in oil-rich country, the world’s youngest nation, in December 2013 following a clash between troops loyal to President Salva Kiir and his former deputy Riek Machar.
The war spread rapidly across the country and has been marked by widespread human rights abuses and atrocities by both sides.

I think some government officials have started getting up to their seances to begin examining what I rightly call Africa to Africa new colonial tendencies. South Sudan neighboring countries never bordered of the situation affecting South Sudan, but are aiming at robbing the country resources using all means to enrich theirs. All it always used as justifications were, experienced, educated, specialists etc, yet they do not want to show to the South Sudanese the actual academic institution for acquiring a professional academic qualification in the faculty of experience.
Thanks to the minister, Kenya and Uganda are now panicking, they claim the order will result into closure of their banks and companies, a lie: were will they take it, who benefit out of the profits they earn in South Sudan. Other threats like we will expel south Sudanese: are this sensible, what have to do with an asylum seeker not employed in your country with employment? Meaning they feel to be exchanging employment in south Sudan for offering temporary permission for South Sudan residents in those countries.
It sound to me as good decision, which will enable educated and unemployed South Sudanese to get better paying Jobs for developing South Sudan other than leaving foreign idiots repatriates. Lets pray that by the end of the current political crises, an order has to be issued burning products from this countries and we see who will buy?
Now that South Sudan is facing problem, non of this nation contributed assistance to the suffering South Sudanese from the profits earned in trading with South Sudan even from salaries earned from South Sudan. In stead they feel comfortable instituting plans to milk South Sudan to death. For instance, Kenya sends number of humanitarian workers to repatriate back wadges, Uganda send in troops charged expensively to grab all the oil revenues and yet contributed no single penny as assistance.
Shame on them: let the degree work as issued such that South Sudanese for first time benefit from their own resources, get salaries and contribute certain %age to help their fellows who are suffering at the moment.
