Press Release,
April 28, 2017 (Nyamilepedia) —— The leadership of the SPLM/SPLA (In Opposition) would like to set the record straight regarding the misinformation by the Juba Regime about the status of the SPLM/SPLA(IO) Chairman and Commander in Chief – Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhuorgon. The Juba regime, in collusion with some IGAD Countries and the defunct Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) under President Festus Mogae, are trying to portray an image to the world that our Chairman is being kept in South Africa as part of a solution to the genocidal war being waged by the regime. The SPLM/SPLA(IO) rejects and condemns this propaganda. The decision of who should or should not be in the South Sudan politics belongs to the people of South Sudan and not to “Some African States”, or President Festus Mogae.
The truth is, the SPLM/SPLA(IO) Chairman and Commander in Chief – Dr. Riek Machar TenyDhuorgon has been under house arrest in South Africa for the past eight months. This has been part of a greater conspiracy, in which the IGAD mediation encouraged the collapse of the Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (ARCISS) by endorsing the illegal nomination of Gen. Taban Deng Gai as First Vice President, in violation of the Agreement; which states under clauses 6.4 of Chapter I and Under Clause 6.5 of the same Chapter:
6.4 “In the event that the post of the First Vice President falls vacant during the Transitional period, for any reason including mental infirmity or physical incapacity of the office holder, the replacement shall be nominated by the top leadership body of the South Sudan Armed Opposition as at the signing of the Agreement. Such a process of replacement shall not exceed forty-eight (48) hours. The successor as the First Vice President shall serve in office until the end of the Transitional Period.”
6.5 “In the event of temporary absence of the First Vice President, the First Vice President may delegate a senior South Sudan Armed Opposition Minister to carry out functions and duties as stipulated in this Agreement.”
The collapse of the Agreement has become a known fact, the man-made famine perpetuated by the regime is also a known fact and the genocide that has been taking place in South Sudan since December 15, 2013, is slowly becoming evident. The IGAD mediation, which paradoxically, President Salva Kiir is a part of, despite being a party to the conflict, is yet to condemn the regime’s role in the violence leading to the collapse of the Agreement, they are yet to condemn the man-made famine perpetuated by the regime, and they are yet to condemn the regime’s targeting of innocent civilians on an ethnic basis. The IGAD mediation is instead helping President Salva Kiir in his genocidal plan 2 by facilitating procurement of weapons through their territories and by helping him diplomatically to cover up his crimes against humanity.
The Chairman of the SPLM/SPLA(IO) has been under house arrest in South Africa for the past eight months and in that time, the sham Transitional Government has achieved nothing. The conspiracy to keep Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhuorgon out of the political process has not yielded the results imagined by the region, instead, President Salva Kiir has expanded the scope of the genocide, including killing aid workers, the economy continues to freefall and there is famine in the country. The IGAD mediation has essentially removed all the obstacles that would hinder President Salva Kiir from destroying South Sudan and they watch silently as he continues his genocidal war.
The IGAD mediation, with President Salva Kiir as a warring party, makes the IGAD mediation a warring party, as much as President Salva Kiir is a mediator. The IGAD mediation cannot be honestly called a mediation and it is impossible for peace to be achieved under such a contradictory set up. The leadership of the SPLM/SPLA(IO) call on the AU and the UN to initiate without delay a credible political process, without the contradictions of one of the warring parties also being part of the mediation. The solutions prescribed by the ARCISS are still valid and can be used as a basis for a new reinvigorated and inclusive political process.
The SPLM/SSPLA-IO believes in the spirit of the ARCISS as the only solution to the conflict in South Sudan. The Movement calls on the AU and the UN to expedite the initiation of the reinvigorated and inclusive political process so that we can rescue the suffering people of South Sudan; whose suffering is compounded by a complete breakdown of law and order all over the country. This is reflected by the regimes expansion of ethnic killings, denying access to humanitarian relief and even looting of humanitarian relief intended for vulnerable people and killing of aid workers, which is exacerbating the famine in the country.
The SPLM/SPLA in Opposition reiterates its full commitment to the implementation of the ARCISS. The Movement also takes this opportunity to assert our natural right of self-defense and our capability to restore law and order in the country through protracted struggle in the face of the expanding genocidal war by the regime in Juba.

Excellent article. The current situation is unsustainable from a political as is much more serious, a humanitarian view. Masses of women, men, children are dying everyday as a result of the UN and AU not acting on the situation. All facts are known, no need for further “expert groups”, no need for more “we are “so upset”, or so “very very upset”. Now is the time for action AU, UN and EU.
The old formula propagated by IGAD is not working. This is clear for all to see. What is to be gained by inaction? Not even the perpetrators of the genocide are enjoying the situation any more, they also have no money to steal any more, the fresh supply of young men to die for nothing is running out, the moral in the aggressor ranks is steadily falling, this is also clear to see. What is there on public show is the death throes of a failed government, people jumping ship like rats, but the lure of some looting still attracting enough weak minded to sustain the aggression. What are we waiting for?
Implement ARCIS as it is, Festus obviously a spent force (if he ever was one), the complicit leaders of the IGAD nations should be taken to task by the bigger AU body.
If as claimed in Upper Nile Times that Kiir is dishing out 449,000 US dollars per month to those of Ramaphosa and some ANC leaders of South Africa in order to house arrest and muzzle Riek Machar’s political ambition, then you can see how bad JCE and Beny Kiir is to the country and her people at the time millions of our people are displaced, dispossessed of their properties and dehumanised by them. You can see lack of patriotism in them. Then you pause a little ask yourself why did Ramaphosa not take a coin from the Boers to betray the cause of the people of South Africa. Secondly this gives a clue to the fact that Museveni, Kenyatta, Festus Mogae and now Ethiopian premier is now are in Kiir’s payroll to enhance the suffering of the citizens to death. In this case a unity of purpose by the people of South Sudan is necessary to change the situation. The church should also play a prominent role to rescue the poor masses of the country by letting the christian brethren all over the world know this suffering.
GOD AND NATION
We call ourselves Christian. And then, after getting into high positions and robbing the poor and plunging them into a senseless war, we turn around and look to foreigners, to other mere human beings for handouts, for power all the while ignoring the Great God who gave us life. Until we stop such heartlessness, such height of political immaturity, such spiritual stupidity, other human beings or their institutions will continue to fail us, to betray us even as we eat monkeys and gore each other like cattle, not to mention the weak forced to flee for refuge in foreign lands where they inadvertently reveal yet another level of the double immaturity reigning in our land.
However, it is not too late for us to recover from the stupor. Our future could be brighter than we can imagine if we acknowledge God’s sovereignty over our nation, for blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD! (PS 33:12)
