Feb 23, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — The government of the United Kingdom, through its Foreign Affairs, is concerned that President Salva Kiir has broken his earlier promises to attend the ongoing peace talk in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

At the end of January 2015, the two warring principals, Dr. Riek Machar Teny and Salva Kiir Mayardit, who lead the main factions in the conflict signed a partially agreed document to resume and finalize the peace agreement to end the 14 month-old conflict before March 5, and form a transitional government by July 9th, 2015.

“At the last round of peace talks South Sudan’s leaders committed to conclude negotiations on all issues, sign a peace agreement before 5 March and form a transitional government by 9 July” Said Baroness Joyce Anelay, the UK Foreign affairs.

President Salva Kiir, who is backed by regional rebels, militias and Ugandan government, has failed to show up during the current round of talks in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, a sign that is condemned by the UK and other partners in the peace process.

According to UK Foreign Office Minister, Baroness Joyce Anelay, the UK government is concerned that President Kiir has reversed his commitments to regional leaders.

“I am concerned that it has been announced that President Kiir will not travel to Addis Ababa for this final round of talks, reversing a previous commitment to regional leaders.” Said the foreign Minister, Barones Joyce Anelay.

The United Nations, TROIKA (USA, UK and Norway) and  partners have lately shown disapproval of Kiir government for leading the atrocities, child soldier recruitment and kidnapping of more than 89 children in government held territories to fight off rebellion at the frontline.

According to United Nation and Human Right Watch reports, Salva Kiir government is responsible for over 97% of human right violations in the country.

“Thousands have been killed and millions forced to flee their homes, the humanitarian situation is getting worse and the economy is rapidly deteriorating.” Baroness Joyce Anelay.

The UK foreign Affairs calls on South Sudan’s leaders to keep their promises and use this last round of peace talks to restore peace in the country.

“I call on South Sudan’s leaders to use this final round of talks to honour their commitments, make the necessary compromises and secure peace for the people of South Sudan,” she said.

Uk further calls on Juba not to capitalize the ongoing constitutional amendment to extend Salva Kiir’s presidency as an excuse to create obstacles to reaching the final peace agreement by the agreed dateline.

“The recent proposal of the Government of South Sudan to modify the constitution to extend the mandate of the President and the National Legislature by two years must not be used as a reason to delay concluding a peace agreement by 5 March.” Said the UK’s Foreign Minister.

South Sudan’s cabinet recommended Salva Kiir Mayardit in 2011 to lead the young country for five years before the first officials elections are held in the world’s young nation by July 2015.

The ruling party, SPLM, however, ran into political differences in 2013 as President Salva Kiir delayed the SPLM Primaries to elect the chairman, who would qualify as the party’s flag bearer, and other prominent positions in SPLM.

Instead Salva Kiir demands the use of show of hands to elect the SPLM chairman and for him to appoint 5% of the voters, which quickly turned the party crisis into national crises.

War broke out in December ,2013. Tens of thousands have been killed and nearly 2 millions others displaced to IDPs camps within the country and refugees camps in the neighboring countries.

What do they want from President Salva Kiir Mayardit? There are delegations leaders present in Addis Ababa with the VP James Wani Igga. The president has done absolutely much more than people were expected to do and this is a sign showing he real want peace therefore, if the delegations done everything then, president himself and the rebels leader will be called by IGAD mediators and the AU leaders for the finally inks. Please tell them to keep singing about needing president Salva Kiir all the time on attending peace process but in reality, they have hands to be blamed in South Sudanese conflict.
