August 1, 2014(Nyamilepedia) — The chairman of South Sudan’s Civil Society Alliance (SSCSA) and head of Civil Society Delegation to the peace talks,  Deng Athuai Mawiir, survived an assassination attempt on Friday in Juba, South Sudan.

Athuai is rushed to hospital to attend medical care after surviving a gunshot by an unknown gunman within the capital city, Juba.

Although the main motivation is yet to be known Athuai is the current chairman of civil society, which was nominated to represent the interest of the civil populations in the country.

Athuai has survived abduction and tortures in 2012 by unknown gunmen who demanded to know “who pays the activist to cause crisis in the country”. Despite the popular demand, no one has been held accountable for his earlier abduction.

Athuai has been vocal about rampant corruption that has seen billions of dollars disappeared in the world’s poorest nation.
