Nov 3, 2014(Nyamilepedia) — An aerial bombing in South Sudan’s Western Bhar el Ghazal state, which has left at least 35 people dead and 17 others wounded in Raja county, has comes just a few days before the South Sudan’s incumbent leader, Salva Kiir, visits the northern neighbor, in an attempt to seek amicable solutions to the deteriorating bilateral relations between the former rivals.

According to Hassan Jallab, the commissioner of Raja County, the civilians were killed when unexpected bombs landed in a densely populated area of the sparsely populated Western Bhar el Ghazal State.

“Some 35 people were killed and 17 people were wounded when an Antonov bomb landed in the heavily populated area,” Mr. Jallab confirmed.

Although Juba is yet to investigate the incident, Philip Aguer, the SPLA-Juba military spokesman, has confirmed the bombing in Raja County and reiterates that the bombing must have been carried out by the NIF regime in Khartoum. The motives are yet to be discovered.

“What we have now is that an Antonov bombed the area today morning,” Philip Aguer said.

Aguer believes that the Antonov emerged from the direction of Khartoum, however, the troubled Juba is yet to identify the plane.

“We are still establishing the make of the plane but what we know is that the plane came from the direction of Sudan,” said Aguer.

The overwhelmed military spokesman, is yet to receive details on the exact number of the fatalities.

“We are yet waiting for more reports on this,” added Aguer when asked him about fatalities.

According to Philip Aguer, the sector commander on the ground has confirmed 17 people wounded.

Western Bhar el Ghazal State is the least populated state in the country but random bombings here and else where at the border towns in the past 10 months has claimed dozens of lives.

Although members of South Sudan government finger point in the direction of Khartoum, the incidents coincide with president Kiir’s rare visits to Khartoum, however, the presidents are yet to reveal the causes of the unfortunate atrocities.

Four factions of Sudanese rebels, fighting President Omar el Bashir, are fighting for Salva Kiir in Greater Upper Nile Region of South Sudan since December, 2013. Although the South Sudan’s SPLA rebels faction has call for their withdrawal, the Sudanese rebels are yet to respond.

South Sudan president is expected to visit Sudan and Egypt within this month. Earlier attempts to visit Cairo in October have failed but arrangements are underway for the two leaders to meet.

The authority of the neighboring Sudan is yet to comment on the recent bombing in Raja County, South Sudan.
