Jan 08, 2015(Nyamilepedia) —- Broadcasted by South Sudan Television as a “re-unification” of the party, SPLM-IO Chief negotiator, Gen. Taban Deng Gai, clarifies that his attendant should not be mistaken for a re-unification of SPLM factions.

“This is to inform the public and the SPLM membership that the process of reunification of the SPLM parties is not yet complete. The SPLM (IO) did not participate in the extra ordinary convention and the making of the ratifications” Gen. Taban said.

According to a press release extended to Nyamilepedia Press, the purpose of SPLM [in Government] convention, held from 7th to 9th of January, 2016, was to amend the party’s constitution and to incorporate the Arusha Reunification Agreement.

“The purpose was to amend the constitution of 2008 and to incorporate the Arusha Renification Agreement” Said Gen. Taban Deng Gai.

In their earlier press release, IO called on the IG to stay the convention until some later dates when peace is established in the country, however, the IG went ahead as planned.

Taban reiterates that he declined to attend the SPLM-IG’s convention, however, he was persuaded to attend by the Deputy President of South Africa and Deputy Chair of ANC. In addition, he was allowed to participate by his party, the SPLM/SPLA(IO).

“The SPLM(IO) was invited to attend the opening session. The IO was reluctant to attend because of our prior request to delay the extra ordinary convent until the conclusion of the work of the Triplet Committee” Taban said.

“However following a request from the Deputy President of South African and Deputy Chair of ANC Cyril Ramaphosa, the SPLM(IO) allowed its chief negotiator to go to attend the opening and closing sessions”. Reads part of the Press.

Gen. Taban calls on the supporters and assures that the armed oppositions, SPLM/SPLA (IO), will first study the new constitution signed today by the Chairman of SPLM(IG) and decides on the ways forwards in regards with the reunification of the party.

According to Mabior Garang de Mabior, SPLM(IO) will not be absorbed by SPLM(IG) but instead will share power based on Arusha agreement and other documents.

“we are for the unity of the SPLM on a new basis…we are sharing power with…and not being absorbed into the Salva Kiir Administration” Mabior states.

South Sudan’s conflict was triggered by the SPLM “Extra Ordinary” Convention, which was abruptly scheduled for December 14-16th, 2013.

The convention was to be held in May that year, however, the Chairman failed to call for it despite several attempts by the then Secretary General, Hon. Pagan Amum. Instead Pagan was stripped off his position, house arrested and removed from the party in December, 2013.

According to many supporters of SPLM, who go viral on social media, the two sides should not be reunited. Many intellectuals from both sides synonymize the suffering of the South Sudanese people with poor reunifications of SPLM party and tend to believe that having two or more politically competing SPLM parties would encourage grassroots-service-delivery and expedite development of the young country.

Comrade Taban Gai in particular and galant SPLA/M-IO in general,

be very careful and do not be swalowed by the jenge council of elders before FEDERAL RULE is established in this country. An agreement usually becomes useless if its main aim is not achieved.

Dear brothers and sister, from the so called reunifications of the SPLM! south sudanese people have study you[ SPLM leaders], and well acquainted for the behaviors of these eaders. During their speeches, I did not heard any one talking about accountability for the innocent people whom they had killed. that show the stupidity of the SPLM leaders in this nation is unpredictable.
I do belief that international community will not abandon our brothers and sisters whom they killed for their worthless leadership.

However, those who had killed our brothers and sisters in both side of conflict for incompatible goals, must be brought to books regardless of which positions they hold. I know some of them think negatively about the number of people whom we lost during their unconfirmed coup.

Furthermore, this time round it will not be like those massacres which they had committed since the formation of the SPLM. Voice of voiceless must be heard, I have unstoppable moved against SLPM tyrant from the day Kiiir and Riek signed an agreement. Our destiny is when the rights of those people whom they killed is being taken carry of.

You are wasting your time in the bush thinking there is something IO when the whole thing is nearly swallowed; not even a tip of the tail is showing.

NO one persuaded Taban to attend. He himself, hurriedly dressed up in STAR hotel for the convention. Believe it or not, I was watching him.

Riek has to run to Juba as soon as his pocket can carry him or else he is being left out from the usual group!
