August 26, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — The rival forces of South Sudan’s SPLA factions under President Salva Kiir and his former Deputy Riek Machar have renewed heavy battles this morning in more than four states.

According to James Gatdet Dak, the Spokesperson of SPLM/SPLA[IO] chairman, rebels forces have repulsed and captured the capital of Magwi County in Eastern Equatoria State.

“SPLM/SPLA forces have captured Magwi town this morning, Wednesday. Our response came after government troops attacked our base which is 25kms from the town.” Gatdet said.

“The attackers were repulsed and pursued into the town and then flashed out from Magwi town.” He reiterates.

The military intelligence of the rebel faction allege that their forces have destoryed two military vehicles and captured 20 magazines of ammunition from the government troops.

“Two military vehicles were destroyed, 20 rifles and 24 magazines of ammunition were captured on the side of President Salva Kiir’s forces.” Gatdet said.

According to James Gatdet, no civilians were targeted but the office of the commissioner of Magwi county was destroyed in the fighting.

Gatdet also confirmed that more fighting has been going on since Wednesday morning in Mundri County of Western Equatoria state.

“Government forces attacked our positions in the area.” Gatdet said.

Multiples sources from Unity states have also confirmed renewed fighting in Leer, and around Nhialdiu and Guit Counties.

Two aid workers from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), Gawar Top Puoy, a logistician who had worked for MSF since 2009 and James Gatluak Gatpieny, who had worked for MSF since 2011 were both killed in separate attacks in Wulu and Payak in Leer county, Unity State.

The armed Opposition has also accused Salva Kiir government of attacking their positions in Ayod County of Jonglei State.

“Their batches carrying troops and heavy weapons along the River Nile have arrived in Shambe area. We have the right to self-defense.” James Gatdet said.

The opposition calls on the international community to exert pressure on the government to stop the attacks and commit to peace.

Latest report from Juba confirmed that the regional leaders from the neighboring IGAD member states have arrived to witness the signing of the Compromise Peace Agreement.

According to Press Secretary Ateny Wek Ateny, the government still has “reservations” and president Salva Kiir is expected to clarify their grievances or “make changes with a pen” before signing the document.

The African Union and the International Community, however, demands that Salva Kiir must sign the agreement without preconditions or reservations.

“We will take immediate action if he does not sign, or if he signs with reservations,” said Nigerian Ambassador Joy Ogwu, whose country currently chairs the council.
