August 6, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan’s internally displaced persons, under the protection of the United Nations in the national capital, Juba, matched to the streets at the protection sites in Juba from 8am, this morning.
Hundreds of IDPs are peacefully demonstrating in POC3 under the theme “Yes for Peace, no for war” and urge the United Nations, IGAD, TROIKA and the International Community to persuade the warring leaders of the two factions of SPLM/SPLA to sign the recently proposed peace agreement by 17th August, 2015.
According to Nyamilepedia’s correspondents on the ground in Juba, the IDPs are holding a peaceful demonstrations majorly in POC3 but was also echoed at the other UN based Protection centers in the capital from 8am today, Thurday, August 6, 2015.
The peaceful demonstration, which call for peace was organized by youth and leaders of IDPs, mostly from the Nuer Community, to call for peace and stability in the country.
The IDPs call on Salva Kiir regime to accept peace instead of war to end the suffering of the citizens and restore the sovereignty of the world’s youngest nation.
The victims remain their oppressors that they are tired of war that has claimed tens of thousands of lives and left many children, women, boys and elderly with permanent wounds and heartbreaks after dreadful atrocities were imposed on many survivals of the conflict.
“We the IDPS in poc-3 campsite kick of this peacefull demonstration calling for peace not for war, we are tired of war, girls, women have been raped, boys, men were been killed” Said one IDP.
The IDPs in Juba also put the suffering populations in Upper Nile and Western Equatoria states in their prayers.
“our brothers, sisters, elders were prevented access to get food in Malakal by government, we are calling on the UN & other international communities to force government to open corridor for food to reach Malakal to save the innocence people who have been starved by the governments of Salva Kirr.” Said Dabuol Both Luak, the chairman of Gawaar Community in POC3.
“Citizen of western Equotoria we know your suffering, but let us pray.” he added.
The demonstrators were addressed by the new camp chairman, Mr. John Makuey Tok Gatluak, among other IDPs leaders who call for peace and stability.
While Salva Kiir regime has prevented humanitarian access to deliver food and health services to IDPs in Malakal and other parts of Upper Nile, many civilians spent at least two days at the UNMISS gates in Yambio, the capital of Western Equatoria state, as other ran to bush for their safety.
In government held areas in the country, politicians and civilians matched to the streets in protest of the recently proposed peace agreement that gives the government a lion share in 7 out of 10 states and also at the national level.
The government rejects the peace proposal and threatens that it would rather join radical Islamist groups than signing the peace proposal.
South Sudan national security under Salva Kiir’s faction in Juba are deployed near the UN camp sites to prevent the IDPs from merging onto the streets of Juba while calling for peace.
The Security service, which was recently empowered through a controversial security bill, has also shutdown the Citizen and Al Rai newspapers for publishing peace reports and showcasing remarks and images of Dr. Riek Machar, the country’s former vice president.
