August 10, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — Reports from South Sudan’s Unity State confirmed that the government forces and allied militias are on offensive in Unity State.
According to residents of Leer and Mayandit Counties, government troops have attacked Leer and Mayardiit counties displacing over 45, 000 people.
The motive of attack on areas that are devastated by the conflict is yet to be clarified, however, the military intelligence of SPLA reveals that the orders came from “the above” to divert attentions from peace talks and the recently proposed IGAD-PLUS peace agreement.
The residents of Mayandit accused the government troops of killing civilians and ransacking the counties in search of food and supplies from the areas.
According to Dickson Gatluak, the assistance spokesman of SPLA in Opposition, the renewed fight has escalated to Pariang County in the Northern part of Unity state.
“the office of the spokesperson confirmed the fighting in Jamjang payam in Parieng county of unity state today.” Gatluak said.
“our forces managed to repulse multiple attacks carried out by SPLA Juba factions and their allied rebels from the SPLA-North.” he continued.
Gatluak believes that the SPLA-Juba attacked their position but the rebels defeated the government troops.
“Our positions was attacked today in the northern part of the state but we resist it.our forces under command of brigadier Simon Maguek Gai managed to capture Jamjang payam from SPLA/JUBA FACTION.” Gatluak said.
