Nov 16, 2015(Nyamilepedia) —-Â Despite the signing of a final peace agreement and pledge of commitments from the two warring parties, South Sudan’s Unity State continues to witness heavy battles, human rights violations, rapes and force displacement of civil population.
According to Weirial Puok Baluang, the military spokesman of SPLA-IO’s military governor, heavy battles resumed in Tuochluak and Thuwaaslok yesterday evening and escalated to Nhialdiu, a major town 40 kilometres to the southwest of Bentiu.
Baluang blames the government troops of attacking their positions in the war-ragged Unity State.
“Government violates the peace agreement by attacking our defensive position in Unity State” Baluang said.
“The government forces under Munytuil Sons attacked our defensive positions at Tuochluak and Thuwaaslok yesterday evening, but our Gallant army and the local Rubkotna youths acted in self defense and defeated them until we overrun NHIALDIU PAYAM.” He said.
The spokesman alleged the rebels pursued the attackers toward Bentiu town.
Baluang believes the government troops have violated the peace agreement and must be held accountable, calling on IGAD to take immediate and appropriate actions against the spoilers of the CPA-II agreement.
 “the government under Salva Kiir in Juba is doing what ever he can to breach the agreement so that the hybrid court will not touch them… Now it is your turn (IGAD) to put what you have suffered for into action by coming to us in the ground and supervise the warring factions.” He reiterates.
According to a group of humanitarian organizations monitoring civilian casualties in Unity State at least 80 civilians, including 57 children, were killed in the Opposition leader’s home county, Leer, in war-torn Unity state between October 4 and 22.
Leer, which has exchanged hands multiple times has been a strategic target for the government troops and allied militia.
In other reports, at least 23 civilians were killed in the latest attack in Jonglei state’s Maar payam last week.
Although the attack is believed to have been carried out by ethnic Murle raiders, no group has claimed responsibility so far.
