June 26, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — The elders of the two major tribes, the Dinka and the Nuer, who were convened by the former President of Kenya, Daniel Arap Moi, in Nairobi this month still face difficulties in merging to work together.

Briefing the chairman of the Opposition, Dr. Riek Machar, the Nuer council of elders revealed that they have not agreed on emerging and intergrating the council of elders into the newly proposed South Sudan Council of elders.

During the briefing meeting on Monday, the elders acknowledged that they have agreed on reparation and compensation for the victims but are still consulting on merging the two councils of elders.

According to James Gatdet Dak, the spokesperson of SPLM [IO] chairman, “the merging of the elders did not materialized”, however, Machar encourages the elders to merge and also to address the root causes of the conflict.

On their part the elders encourage the two warring factions of the SPLM to address compensation for the victims who died during the crisis.

The elders further urge Dr. Riek and Salva Kiir to address the presence of foreign forces in the country and any other pending issue that was not agreed upon in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

While the elders are committed to expand the reconciliation to the grassroots and to address people’s grievances, they are challenged by the former Kenyan President to reconcile the bitterly divided SPLM and other political leaders in the country.

Mzee Moi believes that in African culture Elders are the pillars of the society, and for such the South Sudanese elders must step up, reunite among themselves, and reconcile their leaders and the people.

He calls on all the elders of South Sudan, especially the Equatorian elders, to join the proposed South Sudan council of elders.

Moi is expected to convene the warring principles and continues the dialogue to reunite South Sudan.

The former Kenyan president who midwifed the signing of Comprehensive Peace Agreement in Naivasha, Kenya, in 2005 is deeply saddened that the young country which fought the longest civil war in the continent was again led into another deadly internal conflict by its leaders.

“It gave me a great relief when the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) was signed in January 2005 and the events that led to the birth of the Republic of South Sudan. But I must say how deeply saddened I am to see another war in your young country” The former president said while dispatching the Nuer-Dinka councils of elders.

A close investigation into the funding of the initiative reveals that the former President, Arap Moi, is funding the facilitation of the process.

Dear south Sudanese, the dream of forming south Sudan Council of Elders (SSCE) is simply window dressing, to cover the intent of the Jieng Council of Elders. Before the outbreak of conflict in Dec.15th.2013, nothing was know about Council of Elders, pushing it’s ideology of how the country should be run. However, it came to light that there was a shadow council of elders who are predominantly of Jieng ethnic group, leading the course of how south Sudan should become a Jieng Nation. The intent was clear when the Nuer were a stumbling block towards achieving this goal. As such, we as south Sudanese are waking up in the middle of the nightmare, to learn of the new terminology of Council of Elders. To sum it up, it is utterly an interference of great magnitude, to allow a subset of people’s influence in our democracy, particularly when there is a parliamentary system of government. To conclude, there will be no Jieng,Nuer,Bari,Zander or even Murle Nations, but only South Sudan Nation.

This may lead to political council of elders in South Sudan soon or later. This is something that have never existed anywhere in African countries or in the world . Is democracy we talk about in south Sudan becoming kingdomship ? I don’t get it. If there is difference between these two tribes then elders resolve it, but not to drag it to national level to interfere with democratic system of the country.
