September 15, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —— JUBA – The South Sudan’s National Security Service (NSS) closed the Nation Mirror Daily English Newspaper in Juba on Wednesday morning without giving any written reasons, an editor for the newspaper told Nyamile press.

“They did not tell us the reason, they just said the Nation Mirror was involved in activities that are supposed not to be covered, but we don’t know those activities,” said Chopee.

He pointed out that they were summoned over an opinion piece published by their newspaper, saying the security officials demanded the newspaper’s editors to bring the opinion writer.

The editor told Nyamile press that the newspaper also published ‘The Sentry’s report chronicling public corruption among South Sudan’s leaders including President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Riek Machar.’

He added that we ‘National Mirrow Daily English Newspaper’ were the only newspaper that published the report, so we think that this could also be one of the problems.

After a day when; Josephine Achiro, Director of the Catholic radio station Bakhita FM said restriction on freedom of expression should be lifted in South Sudan.

Speaking to Nyamile press at afternoon on Tuesday, Achiro said restrictions on media will affect Journalists who are working in the country, saying female journalists face enormous challenges due to limited freedoms, besides the discrimination against women in some communities in South Sudan.

Achiro added that the low wages for Journalists, besides the deteriorating economic and security situations affect the performance of South Sudanese Journalists.

Achiro marked it clearly that Bakhita Radio provides capacity-building trainings for female Journalists in collaboration with some Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), while urging international organizations that are supporting media to provide training opportunities for female Journalists in South Sudan.

In this period of January to September this year five media houses closed down and some are reopened like Juba Monitor Daily English Newspaper and other remains closed like Al mugif Arabic Newspaper, beside this its Chief-In-chiefs are under detentions and some on charges by the security agents.
