April 02, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —– South Sudan, the African’s youngest state, is once again in euphoria as the return of the country’s first vice president, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, is expected to set the country on the path it seceded for.
While the United Nations Mission in South Sudan(UNMISS) and the Join Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) are airlifting armed opposition troops to Juba, SPLM/SPLA-IO advanced team, South Sudanese communities and the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) are preparing a “grand reception” for Machar, who is returning as the First Vice President.
Speaking after a meeting, shared by Hon. Stephen Par Kuol, Gen. Dau Aturjong and Gen. Akol Madhan, former National Youth Chairman, Agel Machar, the Military governor of Lol State for the opposition, thanks the people of Warrap and Norther Bhar el Ghazal States for attending the today’s meeting in Juba.
“Special thanks to the people of Warrap and Northern Bhar El Ghazal States for turning out to a back to back meetings today.” Said Agel Machar.
According to Agel, the meeting discussed arrangements for Dr. Riek Machar’s reception and the need for sustainability of peace in South Sudan through forgiveness and reconciliation.
Other campaigns for Dr. Machar’s “1 million people welcome” are currently trending on social media and also in IDPs camps across the country.
To speed up the return of Dr. Riek Machar, South Sudan government has announced to open the airport on Saturday and Sunday for the UNMISS and JMEC to continue bringing in more forces loyal to Dr. Riek Machar from other parts of the country to hit the minimum threshold for Machar’s return.
Between Thursday and Friday, the world bodies flown in two hundreds and sixty SPLA-IO soldiers in addition to 132 troops brought earlier this week. This bring the total number of IO forces in Juba to 372 as 1000 more soldiers is expected to arrive within the next few days.
“In the last two days, a total of 260 opposition forces have been flown into Juba by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) aircraft and Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission or JMEC-chartered flights.” UNMISS announced on yesterday.
Given the extra work hours, UNMISS and JMEC promise that half of the 1370 troops will be brought to Juba by the end of this week and the remaining to have arrived by the end of next week.
“If the logistics of the transport operation goes according to plan, approximately half of the expected troops will have arrived by the end of the week.” Read part of UNMISS statement.
“The remaining troops are likely to reach the capital next week, thus making it possible to initiate the establishment of the Transitional Government of National Unity (TGoNU).” UNMISS says.
