August 24, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — Speaking at the public briefing on August 22nd at Desalegne Hotel, Bole Sub city, Addis Ababa, the chairman and commander-in-chief of the armed opposition, Dr. Riek Machar Teny said the armed opposition and other stakeholders did not sign the peace agreement for the war and the suffering of South Sudanese people to continue but to end.

He calls on president Salva Kiir to return to Addis Ababa to sign the peace agreement to end the suffering of the people and to avert looming sanctions, arms embargo and other punitive actions that may devastate the country and the people.

“I am calling Salva Kiir to come to Addis by next Tuesday and sign his part for the peace to be restored in the republic of South Sudan. If Salva fails and refuses to sign it, then the world would be forced to declare Salva Kiir as the enemy of peace.” Machar said.

“We need serious work on this peace where IGAD should work tirelessly to avoid sanctions which are at the corner to be impose on our country. Sanctions are always difficult to be reverse, it take times to reverse it.” he adds

“Therefore I want government of South Sudan to sign peace to avoid arm embargo, travel ban and flight zone restriction impose on our country. ” Machar continued.

Machar declared the SPLM party in opposition as for peace, affirming that the party aims for change in the republic of South Sudan, respect of human right and cultural diversity.

“We would declare it to the whole world that we are committed to peace, politically and economically.” Machar said.

Dr. Riek’s comments came briefly after Salva Kiir refused to address anti-peace protests, organized by his government across the country to denounce the revised Compromised Peace Agreement that he has consented to sign after consultations.

According to a few anti-peace extremists in Salva Kiir government, the president should not sign the peace agreement claiming that it is a “sell-out” and a “white man peace” agreement, however, Salva Kiir has promised the United States that he will sign the deal.

US and partners, however, have maintained that punitive actions, sanctions and arms embargo must be placed on South Sudan from September 1st should Salva Kiir refuse to sign the peace Agreement again.

The United States has concluded that Salva Kiir has squandered his responsibilities to protect and provide services to his people, a responsibility that has largely been left to the United Nations and the international community.

In Juba, Salva Kiir met his leadership council today as he anticipate the arrival of regional leaders to follow up on his commitment to sign the peace document.

With mixed feelings, some officials confirmed that Salva Kiir may sign the agreement before the 15 days dateline, however, others argue that Kiir must seek for re-negotiations of the Compromise Agreement.
