April 26, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —— The long awaited historic return of Dr Riek Machar Teny, the country’s former Vice President, the chairman and commander in chief of SPLM/SPA in Opposition has finally comes to an end.
Machar has safely landed at Juba International Airport at exactly 3:50pm (SSLT) to kick off the formation of transitional unity, peace and reconciliation of bitterly divided South Sudanese citizens.

For many South Sudanese, the return of Dr. Machar is the only hope to restore and rebuild the country after many years of civil war.
The former Vice President was accompanied by over 40 key politicians, who held powerful positions in the past governments both at the national and states level.
Leaving the airport, Machar will be driven to J1 for his inauguration as the country’s second most powerful politician before proceeding to Dr. John Garang’s Mausoleum to pay respect to his comrade who led SPLM/SPLA until his untimely death before South Sudan’s independent in 2005.
After meeting president Salva Kiir, Machar is expected to hold a brief meeting with advanced team, who have been in Juba since December 2015.
As the country’s First Vice President of the transitional government, Machar will command a separate army, presidential guards and police for another 18 months before the army is merged to South Sudan National Defense Force according to Compromised Peace Agreement signed in August 2015.
Despite having signed SPLM Reunification Agreement in Arusha, Tanzania, two years ago, Mr. Machar and his bitter rival, Salva Kiir, will remain the chairmen of SPLM-IG and SPLM-IO until further notice.
