September 30, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —— JUBA – The SPLM ruling party has received its registration certificate on Thursday Sept 29. The party has been using old registration of Khartoum, says Bol Makuen Ayuol, SPLM Information Secretary. Acting Secretary General Jemma Nunu Kumba with members of the national secretariat will receive the certificate and hand over to President Kiir, Mr Makuen announces.
He says the party has no mandate to operate in the country without registration. Mr Makuen thanks all SPLM supporters who have come to freedom hall today. The SPLM has registered with the Political Parties Council (PPC), a day ahead of the deadline. The registration comes a few days after an emergency national convention held in Juba. The convention incorporated the Arusha Peace Agreement into the party constitution. Members of the SPLM in Opposition and the former detainees only attended the opening and closing sessions.

The SPLM-IO under the leadership of Taban Deng Gai said it would study the document before it reacts to the amendments while the former detainees accepted the changes. Party loyalists marched from John Garang Memorial Park today to the office of the political affairs council. The ruling party was registered in the Sudan in 2009, two years before the independence of South Sudan in 2011.
All the political parties are now required to register under the South Sudan Political Parties Act.
The president was driven on an open hardtop car as several ministers, members of parliament from SPLM and ordinary citizens accompanied him to the PPC office in Thongpiny suburb of Juba. “You have been in the sun for long time and that is why I stopped here to say thank you very much for the support accorded to us (SPLM),” he said. “I want to tell you that there is no easy struggle. See how you walked on feet to the SPLM office and return here. That is a struggle,” he said.
According to South Sudan’s Political Parties Act, 2012, all parties should be registered in the independent South Sudan to be recognized in any future elections. The PPC set January 15, 2016 as the deadline to register all parties in the country.
The National Congress Party (NCP) of Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir registered on Monday in Juba. There are more than twenty political parties in South Sudan; most of them have offices only in the capital Juba and have not yet registered.
