June 20, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — At least seven internally displaced persons, mostly children and women, have been wounded in the recent shooting at the UNMISS camp in South Sudan’s capital, Juba.
According to Gatwech David, who witnessed the scene, at least four children and three women have been wounded in the recent shooting at Jebel IDPs Protection Site.
“Salva Kiir’s militias are shooting at the IDPs now here in Jebel. 4 children and 3 women are shot. They are targeting Nuer civilians for no reason. Heavy shooting started at 6pm and is now going on here. The UN is not doing anything to stop them” Gatwech said
Other multiple sources reiterate that the shooting was carried out by members of South Sudan’s government Security forces.
Although the source could not speak on what instigated the shooting, Salva Kiir government has pronounced dissatisfaction with the United Nations in the country.
Various UN organizations in the country have reported that armed groups and troops of SPLA-Juba “have castrated, and slit the throats of children”, most from the Nuer Ethnic Group, in South Sudan’ Unity State.
At least 129 children, according to UNICEF and Human Rights reports, were killed in May in Unity State when government troops overran, at least, 38 villages in the oil-rich state, burning down tukuls, raping and abducting girls.
The troops razed down villages and raided thousands heads of cattle in Unity State.
According to Reuters News report, “the United Nations slams South Sudan president for impeding civilian protection” in the country.
As violence escalate and retaliatory attacks become rampant on civilians, mostly in the government controlled towns of Bor, Malakal, Wau, Nasir and Juba the United Nations calls for relocation of the IDPs from the government controlled zones to rebel held areas.
