Dec 14, 2014(Nyamilepedia) — Speaking to the press on Sunday, December 14, 2014, the Nuer Christian Mission Network (NCMN) deputy chairperson Evangelist Yien Chagor elaborated that the commemoration day will take place on time per plan and as it happened in Juba.
South Sudan witnessed heavy loss of human lives, properties and physical infrastructures since December 2013. Meanwhile 1.5 million had been displaced and thousands of citizens reportedly had been killed. The International Crisis Group (ICG) said on its report published on April 2014 that Human rights abuses and other atrocities had been committed by both warring parties.
Evangelist Yien added that the event would start by 08:00am to late afternoon on Monday, 15 December 2014 at St. Mathew Anglican Church, Arat Killo. “We invite everybody, media houses and International Community to come and witness the commemoration.” Evangelist Chagor supplemented after the Church services at St. Mathew Anglican Church in Addis Ababa. He mentioned that community would use the day for fasting, prayer, lighting candles, and songs from Nuer hymnal as part of mourning.
In another development, the representative of Nuer Students Union in Mekane Yesus Seminary – Mr. Stephen Bol Pal disclosed that they [students] would first organize mourning at Seminary level before the public mourning kick-off at St. Mathew Anglican Church. The Seminary President Dr. Belay Guta welcome the move instead urged the Seminary’s communities to share the commemoration with South Sudanese students. “I appeal to the entire Seminary community to come and mourn with our South Sudanese brothers”. Dr. Belay said in the public gathering.
William Deng Ker Chagor, the Deputy Chairperson of the Students Union confirms that they [students] had printed Black Polo T. shirts with some wordings and a picture of a dead mother dragged by her son. “This black T. shirt indicates the blood of innocents Nuer who were targeted and killed in Juba.” Tot Jock Jith, the secretary for Students added.
Finally, Evangelist James Ret Lew, the Chairperson for Nuer Christian Mission Network calls for justice on those who committed the atrocities.
