Breaking News: Governor Ismail Konyi Quits Government

May 07, 2017 (Nyamilepedia) —— The Governor of Boma State Sultan Ismail Konyi is reported to have defected from the government, a source that has asked not to be named has disclosed to Nyamilepedia. There are reports of Bor Youth heavily armed by the government to invade the Murle in newly created Boma State, and in the period of two weeks the entered to Boma State, Bor Youth captured two Murle villages. There is no indication that they have withdrawn from the area they have occupied. The arming of Bor Youth by the government of South Sudan is said to have angered Governor Konyi and influenced his defection from the government.

Although Juba has not confirmed or denied Konyi’s defection, the armed opposition under Riek Machar confirmed his defection saying what led him to leave the government is that Bor Youth militias have been attacking Murle civilians in the past two weeks.  They have so far killed 423 people from Murle, most of whom are children, women and elders, burned 1500 houses and looted more than 1000 heads of cattle, SPLA-IO deputy spokesperson has claimed.

In another development, the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO) has strongly condemned the attack on UNMISS Base in Leer, describing it a terrorist act against civilians under the protection of the United Nations, SPLA-IO deputy spokesperson has said in a condemnation statement seen by Nyamilepedia news desk. The armed opposition alleged that the South Sudan army repeated the same atrocities it carried in Bor Protection of civilians sites in 2014.

“This is an act of terrorism and a direct expression of what the government wants – War other than peace. This is not the first time the government forces attack UNMISS base; in 2014 their militias attacked Bor POC and in 2015, they attacked Malakal POC and killed civilians to mention but a few,” Lt. Col. Lam Paul Gabriel has said in a statement.

On Wednesday, the head of the UN Mission in South Sudan David Shearer released a statement reporting the Ghanaian peacekeepers foiled an attack on civilians protected in the Missions Temporary Operating Base (TOB) in Leer town. Shearer further reported that an investigation to establish which party organized an attack would be carried out, but indicated that the attackers came from the direction of the government.

“The SPLA IO would like to distance itself from this barbaric act on UNMISS base in Leer. We respect UNMISS, all NGOS and civilians. UNMISS protects civilians in government controlled areas while we protect civilians in the liberated areas. Therefore UNMISS is not our enemy but technically a partner in civilians’ protection.”

Governor Allan Konyi is not defected as people said in the social media. For what reasons? At now Murle youth defense forces MYDF are persuaded/ chasing the Bor youth heading to Bor Town.

    • What the Dinka Bor want is for the Murle to Join IO then they declare war with the support of the army in the pretext that they are rebels because they fail to defeat the Murle Worriers by all means including in the recent attack which was involving the national army. We really thought them lessons, they only came to leave corpses
