April 22, 2014(Nyamilepedia) — Many South Sudanese, including the incumbent president Salva Kiir Mayardiit,  believe that the Bor civilians are being set up by some elements in the government. However, it is not clear whether the conspiracy is being engineered only by [some] Bor officials, and whether it originates from Bor or Juba..

The commander in chief of the armed forces, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, asks of where the “armed Bor youth” recently came from despite that his government spent millions of dollars on the Ugandans mercenaries to recapture and defend the strategic town of Bor from the white army.

“Where were they (Bor youth) when White army invaded Bor town? Bor leaders are going to tell me and I am going to get anyone behind this” His Excellency Kiir Mayardit threatens the perpetrators.

Kiir understands that the responsibility of defending Bor town lies on his shoulders, not the “armed youth”. Despite that it is quiet challenging, his regime has to control and defend the strategic city of Bor for the capital city to be secure. SPLA army lost its top Generals, especially the sons of Bor, in January in fruitless attempts to recapture the town from Maj. Gen. Gatdek Yaka. Gatdet later claims to have withdrawn due to the influx of Ugandan mercenaries, whom his forces were not prepared to battle, despite he battled the battalions from Lake, Central, Western and East Equatoria states.

Such a conspiracy could as well be aimed to threaten the leadership of Salva Kiir Mayardiit and not necessarly the civilians.

Although Mabior Garang de Mabior, hardly agrees with president Salva Kiir, he had similar feelings about the incident.

“it was not Bor Youth that Attacked the IDP’s…it was criminals that are on government payroll…where would “Bor Youth” get rocket propelled grenades? And not to mention some of them where in uniform” Mabior wrote on his Facebook page.

Mabior further stated that the incident was used to set up the Bor civilians for another attack.

“this is being done to incite the White Army in order for them to attack civilians in Bor…it is the same idea that motivated the Juba Massacre…but the people of South Sudan have seen through the governments underhanded plan…and the liberation of South Sudan is in full swing…and shall soon engulf the whole nation…we shall take this tragedy created by a clique of criminals in Juba…and transform it in to an opportunity to change our country” Mabior continued.

It is yet to be investigated if the Bor officials intended to revenge on the Nuer civilians or just wanted to set up the local population for unknown interests.

Similar conspiracies have dominated debates among the Twic East and Duk community since the beginning of this conflict. Officials like Micheal Makuei Lueth have been at the center of such discussions for utterly believing that Duk and Twic East populations are rebels because their civilians were not targeted by the armed opposition.
