February 19, 2014 [RT] — General Johnson Ulony, the leader of SSDM/A rebel groups that are allied with the government, has allegedly sustained a critical injury, in the recent fighting in Upper Nile state.
The source confirms that Ulony was shot yesterday in Malakal town as he attempts to resist the SPLA(in opposition) forces.
The Maj-Geneneral is believed to have sustained an injury on his neck, according to an informed military source in Malakal. The source claims that an approximately 30, 000 white army have overran the town, recapturing it from the government troops.
Col. Philip Aguer, the government army spokesman, alleges that the ‘white army’, made up of civilians were mobilized in Ulang, Nasser and Maiwut of Upper Nile State. He believes other were recruited from Ayod and northern Waat counties in Jonglei State.
The SSDM/A rebel group accepted an amnesty issued by Salva Kiir in April 2013.
Ulony is considered as one of the leading figures of western Upper Nile to side with the government in the current crisis.
Other prominent politicians from the same area, including Oyai Deng and Pag’an Amum, who are still in prison, are associated with the rebels.
