June 18, 2021 – The South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) has announced a 23-man squad to take part in the Arab FIFA World Cup to be played in Qatar this year.
This comes after the Ministry of Youths and Sports lifted a ban barring the team from participating in the tournament on grounds of unfollowing bureaucratic protocol.
In an announcement Friday evening, the national football governing body revealed a list of players that will take part in the all-Arab tournament.
In the goalkeeping position, Ramadan John, Majak Manith, and Khamis Daniel will make the cut for the Bright Stars.
Dhata Joseph, Peter Maker, Toha Rashid, Mutwakil Abdelkarim, and Omot Sebit will perform the defensive role in Doha.
The midfield will be under the custody of Dominic Angelo, Chok Daniel Dau, Rihan Angeer (Defensive Midfielder), Emmanuel Thomas, Mandela Malish, Musa Asad, Stephen Panwaar, Gibson Wande, and Abraham Riel.
Meanwhile, Kur Gai, Peter Anthony, John Albino, Makueth Wol, Kuoth Yuel, and Aluk Akech will lead the striking line.
South Sudan takes on Jordan on Monday 21st June 2021 in their first fixture of the tournament. The national team is funded by Trista.
The Bright Stars have performed remarkably better in major regional and continental competitions with their best performance coming against Uganda where they beat the neighboring opponents 1-0 in the African Cup of Nations Qualifiers in a game played in Kenya.
It remains to be seen what will become of the national team in a tournament their taking part as honourees.
