Dec 14, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — The SPLM-IO leader Dr Riek Machar has announced that the Upper Nile conference that was agreed upon during the presidency meeting last week will kick off on Wednesday and will run for three days.
“The conference shall run for three (3) days under the theme: ‘Peace, reconciliation, healing and unity among the people of Upper Nile state” Stated a statement shared by the first Vice President.
Machar further said that the conference will be convened in line with the R-ARCSS which provides an opportunity for the people of Upper Nile to reconcile, heal, unite and restore the social fabric of their society as well as rebuild their state.
According to the statement, the conference will run under three objectives which are to provide a platform for the people of Upper Nile State dialogue among themselves and address their grievances and enhance the process of peace, reconciliation, healing and unity among the affected communities.
The conference will also address the restoration of the destroyed social fabric and peaceful coexistence and encourage the return of resettlement of the internally displaced person, refugees and POCs residents in Malakal and elsewhere into their homes.
It is expected to bring together around 496 delegates from all political and social spectrum of the communities of the state.
In attendance will be delegates from the neighbouring countries including Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda and Kenya.
The conference is set to take place in Juba at the Freedom Hall from 16th to 19th December 2020 under the patronage of president Salvar Kiir and under the chairmanship of the first vice-president Dr Riek Machar.
