Juba, South Suda
August 18, 2021 — The South Sudan Opposition Movements Alliance (SSOMA) has learned with total dismay and hor- ror, the 16th August, 2021 ambush along Juba-Nimule Road that led to the killing of innocent citi- zens, among whom were Sister Mary Abud and Sister Regina Roba of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Congregation, and others traveling on the caravan between Aru junction and Nesitu along the Juba- Nimule highway, just a few kilometers from Juba. The Catholic nuns and the other victims were returning back to Juba after attending the Centenary celebration of the Loa Parish in Loa, Eastern Equatoria State.
SSOMA would like to extends its profound condolences, thoughts and prayers to the entire Catholic fraternity and more specifically to the families of Sr. Mary Abud and Sr. Regina Roba, and the Sa- cred Heart of Jesus Congregation. Also, SSOMA extends its condolences to His Grace the Arch- bishop Stephen Ameyu of Juba Metropolitan Archdiocese. We equally convey our condolences and prayers to the families of the other victims of this cowardly attack.
SSOMA denounces and condemns in the strongest terms possible this heinous killing of innocent civilians and members of the clergy. We hold the regime of Salva Kiir responsible for the ongoing attacks on civilians along roads, ethnic fights in villages and disappearances inside the towns of South Sudan.
Alas, these recurring ambushes, attacks, and killings of innocent people along the major roads and towns in South Sudan is a clear major undeniable proof of the total breakdown of law and order and a complete lack of security protection that is indicative of the failed regime of Salva Kiir.
SSOMA calls on the International Community and relevant organizations to investigate these bar- baric killings as there is an alarming rate of attacks on Church personnel and innocent civilians across South Sudan.
We pray the Almighty LORD to Rest their Soul in Eternal Peace.
