Dr. Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon Leader of SPLM/A -IO giving a Historical speech in UNGA meeting in New York

Septmber 29, 2015 (Nyamilepedia)—This is the speech of Dr. Riek Machar in the UN high level meeting in New york.

Ladies & gentlemen,

Let me express my profound appreciation to UN secretary general Mr. Ban Ki Moon for inviting me to this high level meeting on South sudan. This meeting highlight the world’s community concerns for consultating peace in South Sudan and the region.

Mr. secretary general,

I commend your personal commitment; I have come to express myself on peace agreement that I had signed on 17 august, 2015, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia although the peace agreement did not meet our comfortable minimal bu we have accepted it and we are seriously propagating for its implementation amongst south Sudanese both inside the country and in the diaspora.

Mr.Chairman,

The 21 months cease fire was vicious and devastating more than the war of self-determination and independence. To date, over tens of thousands of South Sudanese have perished and millions have been displaced internally and at risk of starvation.

The United Nations in south sudan is protecting over 200, 000 souls that took refuge in the UN protection camps and over one million people have sought refuge in neighbouring countries. The war had created a dire humanitarian situation; this war must stop! the peace agreement must be implemented!

However, there are challenges that will impede the peace agreement implementation and I want to raise some of these challenges in this meeting:-

  1. There are pending issues that were not addressed in the last security workshop in Addis Ababa, particularly the determination of the seizes of the forces that will be deployed in Juba, Bor, Malakal, Bentiu and other major towns.

We have notice that there is no common understanding on the interpretation of the demilitarization of Juba and the towns. The cease fire is not holding, i agree with president Salva Kiir on that. I don’t want the catalogue of violations as president Salva did this morning. The strange thing is that we are attacked and we are blamed…. I would like to say this in arabic(ضربنا بكا Ùˆ سبقنا اشتكي)

  1. No resources for assembling/contanonment of troops such as tents, food, water etc during the pre-transitional period.
  2. No resources for disseminating the peace agreement amongst the citizens inside the country and the diaspora.

  3. No resources for kicking off the most important part which is National reconciliation and healing during the pre-transitional period.

  4. No resources for enhancing economic and service committees. We in the SPLM/A and our brothers and sisters in the government of Republic of South Sudan must embark on the trajectory that shall bring lasting peace and development to South Sudan.

I particularly call up on my brother president Salva Kiir Mayardit to gather necessary political will to implement this peace agreement in letter and spirit. He must start by withdrawing the reservations he has placed on the agreement. The unity of our people is dependent on this agreement.

Your excellency;
The role of UN, AU, IGAD and the countries surrounding South Sudan is fundamentally in the new trajectory South Sudan’s text in words of the UN secretary general during the admission of South Sudan as 193rd member of the UN and I quote ” the commitment of all members states will be essential as South Sudan moves forward”; this statement remains true today.

Your excellency;
Mr. chairman, Am aware that for this compromise peace agreement to last and achieved its goal, it must also be bridge for achieving peace in Sudan and Uganda and also it is time for the people of two Sudans to embark on the new beginning___a total peace for the region.

In the other hands, I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the AU peace and security council for discussing the report of the AU commission of the inquiry on South Sudan conflict and for making the report public.

Ultimately, we as political leaders must realize our collective responsibility to repair the torn social fabric of South Sudan through the transitional justice process set forth in the recently signed agreement to heal the emotional and physical wounds inflicted on our people by this destructive conflict.

I will go back to South Sudan taking with me the reassurances that the world, through the UN remains actively to engage in bringing lasting peace and development to our people.
In my part and on behave of the SPLM/A, I pledge to remain committed in consolidating Peace in South Sudan and the region. Doing so pave the way for development and prosperity in the country.

Your excellency;
Mr. chairman, to conclude, many external observers and sometimes even South Sudanese themselves asks question: Is South Sudan viable in the long run? Yes, I tells them that it is viable.

Your excellency,

It is viable state and what my country needs is not new forces, but fresh ideas, a political vision and a road map.

South Sudan needs five things to happen in the short period coming;
1. Peace and security needs to be restored to South Sudan.
2. IDPS and refugees needs to be repatriated and resettlement.
3. South Sudan must be connected to itself and its neighbours by modern roads.
4. South Sudan must build its own national power grid to enhance development.
5. South Sudan must produce its own foods.

We hope South Sudan become the bread basket of the region.
Thank you very much.

Dr. Riek Machar, you have great vision for the South Sudan people’s welfare but the issue is that your partner, the incompetent & Tribal-minded, killer Kiir and cohorts are totally bent to do destroy the long standing cohesiveness of the South Sudanese citizens for good. Theirs past/present deeds-actions-evil plans prove this beyond reasonable doubt.

Thank you for saying it with truth. I have come to that conclusion a long ago. Everything some Jaang leaders are doing in South Sudan in terms of peacefull coexistence, unity minus tribalism as far as history can recalled leads to exactly what you have just said.

“Bi Uganda Jien bi duoth ni Slava, kuar kap kua nguot thele maalec thin”

I like the speech, its cautious, precise, without any blame game cliché. Machar is embracing to those genocidal thugs in Juba refering to them as “brothers”. Ok Dr. Machar don’t forget that brother on brother deadly violence is a crime.

Am I alone here or does this speech sound like a mixture of a Obama style campaign pitch and sale pitch trying to convince the world to perceive South Sudan in a better light of viability, prosperity if only managed right and by none other than Machar himself.

The slogan “Change that you can believe in” came across my mind while reading through.

On the other hand 21+ months later after Dr Machar escaped assassination with an aftermath resulting in the death of tenth of thousands of Nuers in Juba.

The good Dr is still greateful, hopeful & so he continue sending (SOS) amber alerts to the world that it’s not too late for the world community to help him and his supporters rescue South Sudan from Jaang extremist elements readily violating the peace agreement genocidal Kiir signed.

Had this been the primitive tribal chief Kiir making a speech, Machar rebellion & spoiled coup would have appeared repeatedly. There would have been countless accusations against everyone in the room except for Angola, Uganda & USA’s all time favorite person, Mr. Puttin of Russia.

Have those thugs in Juba started packing to move out yet? lol just love the sound of that. Move Out. Get Going Get out of Machar’s way.

The MNW combined with white Army stationing in Juba waiting for a second round squaring off will be a sight to murmured about.

The incompetent killer Kiir, Malong Awan, Kuol Manyang, Makuei liar, Philip Aguer, Mabek Lang, Ambrose Riing, Bona Malual, and co-conspirators of the ongoing Nuers ethnic campaign-war must first apologize and beg for forgiveness from the millions and millions of the relatives and friends of their victims. Otherwise, for them to do the contrary is purely a recipe for sticking time bomb on them and their kinsmen period

Mr. Machar, why is it that you want to develop S Sudan after destruction cause by your power greedy? and what have you done for the last ten years since you were the V.president until your removal?

Madding, according to you calling for development is wrong.
For the last 10 years, Mr tribalist Kiir been frustrating reforms that would enable facilitating development easier…the funds for development were embezzlied through Kiir and his groups of thieves.
Greed for power is in the Jaang blood hence the Juba massacres. You aren barking at Nuers and Dr Machar as a escapegoat. The war of federations is next and you will not be able to cloak yourself from Near expansionits. Nuers need the land beyond Ramciel as part of their federation.

The incompetency of your Jaang leaders and community as awhole is historic. I am still waiting for Bor of Jonglei to release a unanimous paper condemning the South Sudan gov, the presidential gaurds, JCE, the ministry of defense and the chief of staff of SPLA Army, the national security and the Jaang revenge seeking extremists elements to not use the 91 Bor incident to indiscriminately target Nuers and as a result brought a total destruction on the whole country leaving everything unsafe. The long deep silence speak volume of being perfectly find with such action being carried out in the name of your community. The same message goes to the Equatorians in which such a massacres as in Juba went on for days, weeks on ends without speaking against the perpetrotors. Had this happened in Nuer home territory let’s say it’s the Jaang doing it to any other tribe in South Sudan, the Nuers would have put a stop to it in a matter of hours. That is the one big difference with Nuers and you cowards Jur. You condone evil that is merciless not knowing you could be next. Don’t flee yet.

South Sudanese must know how to lead themselves, must know how to rule themselves, must know how to live together, must know how to build trust in themselves, must know how to build confident in themselves, must understand the true concept of leadership, must know and learn how to cultural and social bridges in their communities, must know how to produce their own food, their own clean water, their own houses, must know how to create good friendship and relationship with themselves and others, must think of the big picture, the big dream, the big aspiration, the big Trend and the big South Sudan and South Sudanese.

Goweng, Kiir is un able to speek, that why he used telephone so that people would see his behavior of cleaning his face, sweating because he was drunk, and staying with ladies overnight from his friend Yur SABUNI of Uganda. let Wani Continue be poppet of Kiir but one day He (Wani) will lead S Sudan. My friend world is viewing what step Wani is doing, to my view point of understanding wani’s heart isn’t like those of dinka and nuer. WANI IS A DEMOCRATIC WINNER IN SOUTHERN SUDAN REGARDLESS OF WHAT PEOPLE ARE TALKING THAT HE IS COWARD………….WORLD LEADER KNOW

Machar is bent on destroying any chance for a brighter future. People should ignore the background of this man, this is the all time South Sudanese killer who can do anything for his own political gain. You know the liberation struggle almost collapsed in 1990’s because of him and as if that was not enough, he went ahead to cause havoc in 2013. And now he hides behind those political rhetorics, a wolf in a sheep’s skin! Now he is getting back for another round of massacre! Those crying foul about Salva Kiir are just short-sighted lunatics who quickly forget their past. Kiir sacrificed his past, present and the future for you and you are still ungrateful. What has Machar don for South Sudanese apart from murdering them? If you call yourselves South Sudanes today it’s because of Salva, otherwise you would be called savages with Machar sleeping in 5-Star hotel while you whine under hot South Sudan air with no bread to feed your empty bellies. Stop being selfish and acknowledge the sacrifices Kiir has offered. I would be grateful to Machar if her was a sensible well-intentioned citizen of our country, but how can I be when we are dealing with a glutton only working for material gain? Look he does not to elaborate on the fact that his rebel group split but he his only pleading for money that might benefit just his family and cronies….Shame upon you Machar for specializing in destruction. For sure your PhD thesis was ” How To Destroy My People”. Go back to school and get a certificate of common sense and how to be a patriotic citizen of a country with a heart to serve your people…Am deeply disappointed in the way you have betrayed our country just because you want gain as an individual….
