October 25th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The United States mission in South Sudan has issued a security alert for the it’s citizens living living in Juba ahead of the upcoming peace celebrations that are expected to be held in the nation’s capital on October 30th.
The U.S. Embassy in South Sudan noted that there will be heightened security operations in Juba by 28-30 and that the United States citizens should plan and arrange their travel in advance.
“On October 30, the Government of South Sudan will host a gathering of regional leaders and other dignitaries to celebrate the signing of the Revitalized – Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS). Between October 28-31, heightened security is expected throughout Juba,” the embassy said in a statement on its website this afternoon.

The statement issued by the US Embassy outlined five important action plans for its citizens during this unpredictable event, warning that, as the celebrations get kicked off, they should plan their travel accordingly, use caution and avoid movement during hours of darkness, monitor local news, avoid large crowds and they should also be aware of their surroundings at all times.
South Sudan’s main opposition leader, Dr. Riek Machar Teny is expected in Juba in the next couple of days amid security concerns.
