Unity State Press Release
By Dak Buoth,
November 21st, 2018(Nyamilepedia) — On 19th, November, 2018 Education Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Amina Mohamed released the results of this year Kenya certificate of Primary education (KCPE). We soon learned that nearly all our Pupils including the ones who sat for their exams in hardship places like Kakuma and Dadaab Refugees camps have excelled and shined tremendously.
For instance, the 12 years old Boy, MAARNAATH PETER CHABAK from Mirema School in Nairobi scored 417 marks out of 500 marks. Several other Pupils majority who are Girls have scored high marks in their respective schools country-wide.
On 20th November, 2018, we woke up and walked to Merima school ground in Zimmerman estate to cheer, dance and sing for Maarnaath and all our pupils who passed in this national examination. While singing and dancing for each of them, we prayed for their health, that may they remain fit as they seek other opportunity to further their studies.
We therefore write to thank and urge our pupils to move ahead majestically while acknowledging and appreciating their great academic potentials. We really encourage them to continue with this positive spirit of hard work, perseverance and discipline as they move to the next level.
They say only the sky is limit. These marks are stepping stones. These pupils did it for Unity State, South Sudan, Africa and the world at large. Thinker Meda Wagtole once opined that ‘‘to be educated means, I will not only be able to help myself, but also my family, my country, my people. The benefits will be many’’.
We are proud because children and Youth represent the future. Thus these bright performances indicate that tomorrow is going to be bright as well. Hence, we are now happy and hopeful.
We have no doubt that those who are still doing their exams in secondary schools will do the same if the results for this year Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCPE) are release in few months to come.
Indisputably, we account and attribute their exceptional performances to their hardworking Parents, Relatives, Sponsors, Tutors, Friends and Advisors for their financial and moral support over the last eight years in primary school. And now that these pupils shined nationally, we believe their parents and Guardians will do everything they could to make them succeed in their endeavors.
On the same note, we highly commend and congratulate the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Kenya Government under the able leadership of his Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta for providing free primary education to displaced children in Kenya. At the same time, we thank our Kenyan public for their love and hospitality over the years. In schools they teach us and their children alike, and this demonstrates that we are one people fighting common enemies which are often breeds by illiteracy and ignorance.
The World is aware that Unity State like other regions in South Sudan has no favorable environment for children to study due to biting hunger, war and so on and so forth.
At the moment the Unity State is the most destroyed region in South Sudan and the facts are evidence. As we speak, you could hardly find a school in operation except few primary schools in Panyijiar County which lack Books, Tutors and other educational facilities.
Over the last six or so years, Unity State has dominated the local and international headlines for the numerous atrocities and gross Human Rights abuses committed by government forces.
However, with the newly signed Revitalized Peace Agreement, our hopes lies on President Salva Kiir and Former 1ST Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny who ratified this peace accord on 12th September 2018 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopa. We hope to repatriate and rebuild our homes and schools should the duo and the likes implement this peace accord to the letter and spirit.
We believe they will commit themselves to it because we have suffered enough and all our lives are at stake. It is true that peace is the mother of education and all kind of developments which South Sudanese are yearning for.
