Nov 28, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —– The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement and army in opposition (SPLM-IO) Mission and Chapters in the Republic of Uganda issues this statement in regards to the recent blockage and in regards to the current US proposal to United National Security Council (UNSC) meetings on 25th November 2016. It is a sad development that the US government under President Barrack Obama’s Administration seeking and lobbying the UNSC to sanction to the SPLM/A-IO Chairman and commander- in- Chief Dr. Riek Machar Teny who survived twice assassination attempts by Juba regime under President Salva Kiir.

In the interest of peace and in the name of our suffering population, we issue the following statement:

[ad name=”Google Ads 03″]

First, we acknowledge the positive and tireless efforts by IGAD, Troika and the International Community to bring peace and stability in South Sudan. We also recognize and appreciate the Ethiopian government for the Addis Ababa Peace Talks which culminated into the Cessation of hostilities (COH) sign on 23rd January 2014 and the ARCISS on 17th and 26th August 2015 with all its modalities. We also like to appreciate the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) for its tireless efforts to facilitate the logistical part to ensure the presence of the SPLM/A-IO forces and cadres to implement the peace agreement.

However, to our shock and dismay we discovered that the whole process was meant to lure the opposition officials and on top of them Dr. Riek Machar Teny, to come to Juba to be eliminated and indeed on 8th July 2016, the plan was executed on the watch of all peace guarantors and the international community. The onslaught led to the death of many SPLM/A-IO members and subsequent slaughter of civilians’ base on their ethnicity by Juba regime. Dr. Riek Machar who is a victim survived and only trekked for more than a month to Congo. On top of this, Dr. Riek Machar has been recently blamed for declaring the SPLM/A-IO to take defence-position since it is targeted. It has become clear the restriction of Dr. Riek’s movement for peace has been sponsored by Obama Administration.

We therefore, strongly condemn the Obama’s Administration for its malice and pretence in targeting the victim Dr. Riek and the SPLM/A-IO while condoning the war crimes, crimes against Humanity and genocide committed by Juba regime since 15th December 2013 to date.

We also condemn in the strongest terms possible the current US proposal for the UNSC seeking to applying travel ban and freezing of assets against Dr. Riek Machar Teny and excluding the real mastermind of all political mess in the country in the person of Salva Kiir Mayardit. It’s indeed obvious and clear that the US Obama government is gambling with a ‘conflict of interest’ in South Sudan.

We therefore, call Upon UNSC to adhere to Obasanju, JMEC, Samantha Power and co and sentry recommendation to denounce and declare alleged `second coup plot` as null and void and instead encourage the original signatory parties to the peace agreement to implement the August 2015 peace agreement in good faith. We also strongly call upon the UNSC members to reject the US proposal as it is a callous move that undermines the will and the wishes of the majority within and outside South Sudan. Restricting and sanctioning Dr. Machar with words and actions while favouring an illegitimate government in Juba led by an imposed leadership of Salva Kiir and non SPLM/A-IO members Taban Deng Gai will definitely promote violence and prolong the sufferings of the people of South Sudanese.

To the region and the world, any new political process to eliminate or sideline the leader of the SPLM/A-IO Dr. Riek Machar will backfire on true way forward for peace .To exclude Dr. Riek Machar as principal and as an important pillar to the Agreement in resolving the Conflict in South Sudan “is risking it all”. The regional and the world should clearly know understand Dr. Riek Machar is a unifying factor in south Sudan and restricting his participation in political process to bring about permanent peace in South Sudan is going to throw the Country into more violence and fragmentation.

We finally call upon the region and the African union, the Obama Administration and the entire international community to reflect and desist from evaluating violence and civil war in South Sudan by victimizing a victim like Dr. Riek, but look wholly to be impartial and chart an inclusive peace process for all stakeholders where the SPLM/A-IO will be represented by its leader Dr. Riek Machar.

We warn strongly that failure to hit our calls on intimidation on Dr. Riek will lead to more fragmented Country- South Sudan.

Sign……………….
