September 19th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The SPLM-IO Youth League in Uganda has urged South Sudan government to stop ongoing preparations for election of South Sudan National Youth Union (SSNYU) saying it is not the right time to conduct elections.
South Sudan’s minister of culture, youth and sport Nadia Arop last week formed a committee to organize elections after the removal of Albino Bol who was the youth leader.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the chairperson of the SPLM-IO Youth League in Uganda Omojok Obac said the group is disappointed over the formation of an election commission.
“The SPLM-IO Youth league in Uganda has learned with great disappointment and disarray the formation of the Electoral Commission of South Sudan National Youth Union by Hon Nadia Arop Dudi, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports,” Obac said in the statement extended to Nyamilepedia.
“SPLM-IO Youth league therefore rejects this election of the South Sudan National Youth Union and calls for postponement, until achieving security reforms in the country,” the statement added.
The group said the process would not be inclusive “because currently majority of South Sudanese Youth are in refugees Camps, UNMISS Pocs and others are in exile. This is due to the insecurity and political instability in the Country.”
They statement added that there is also no “conducive environment in South Sudan for the youth to carry out their activities freely and openly.”
