December 4, 2018 (Nyamilepedia)Several sources this week disclosed to Nyamilepedia that there is a discussion going around concerning the main Armed Opposition, SPLM/A-IO considering to builds a more non-armed political movement.

On 30th of November, 2018 addressing hundreds of SPLM/A-IO supporters and members at the Higher Academy for Strategic and Security Studies (Al Academia), Khartoum, the Armed Opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny who have been leading a five years rebellion against the government of Salva Kiir  failed to reveals when his Armed Opposition (SPLM/A-IO) shifting to a non-armed political party.

The party is shifting from armed group to a none armed political party according to what I am hearing.” a source interviewed in Khartoum who asked his identity not reveals told Nyamilepedia correspondent on phone on Friday afternoon.

However, speaking to Jesus Deng Mading, the former SPLM Youth League Spokesperson and current members of the Movement’s top body organ, National Liberation Council, Mr. Mading dismissed the rumors saying nothing of such has been made public during the recent meeting.

Asked whether there was any revelation on the new agenda, Jesus Mading confirmed to Nyamilepedia editorial team that such a move is indeed on the table but not yet been made public during the last week gathering.

It is not true. He did not make such a statement during the gathering. There is such a move but it has not been made public. The chairman was briefing the members and the supporters on the progress of the peace agreement.” Mr. Deng told Nyamilepedia.

Deng said the message was clear the party is considering shifting after the integration of the armies into a unified national army. This means such a move can only be possible when the reunification of the two warring armies is transformed into a national army.

South Sudan plunged into civil war on December 15, 2013. More than 400,000 estimated killed, millions displaced and hundreds of thousands facing food shortage and humanitarian disaster. Several peace agreements signed and dishonored during the last five years, however, in September this year peace was revived and progress is yet to be seen.

On Tuesday SPLM/A-IO claims their positions in Guit County, Unity State was being attacked by the government forces.
