August 7th, 2014 (Addisababa) — In a press release on 5th August 2014, the IGAD Mediators asserted that the SPLM/SPLA in Opposition failed to attend peace process for South Sudan on the 5th of August 2014; hence expect the SPLM/SPLA in Opposition to return to negotiations on the 6th August.

According to the Spokesperson Comrade Mabior Garang De Mabior, said, this is not the case.

The SPLM/SPLA in Opposition is engaged with the Government of the Republic of South Sudan through Security and Humanitarian sub-committee to finalize modalities of implementation of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement since the opening of the Phase II session 5 Mabior mentioned.

Comrade Mabior who is the SPLM in Opposition National Information Chairperson said, the SPLM/SPLA in Opposition had committed itself to a multi-stakeholders’ roundtable; where he said, there is misrepresentation of the position of the SPLM/SPLA on the participation of other stakeholders.

He (Mabior) therefore, stated that the SPLM/SPLA in Opposition has been calling for direct negotiations with the Government while the SPLM Leaders (Former Detainees) Political Parties, Civil Society Organizations and Faith-based Groups can participate in a consultative manner.

“Our commitments to resolve the conflict peacefully remains strong” Mabior commenced.

Mabior concludes that SPLM in Opposition, therefore, call on the people of South Sudan, IGAD Member States and international partners to pressure the IGAD Mediators to allow the direct negotiations between the warring parties to peacefully resolve the crisis without further delays.
