Nov 13, 2018(yamilepedia) — South Sudanese armed forces met on Saturday in Kajo-Keji as part of the ongoing trust-building measures.
High Ranking Military officers of the Sudan people Liberation Army-in Opposition on Saturday sent a group of the military advance team to pay a courtesy visit to Senior commanders of the South Sudanese army (SSPDF) at their base.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia on Sunday, the Spokesperson of the SPLA-IO in Yei, Wayi Godwill Bizi confirmed the meeting between the two armed forces and pointed out that, the interaction between the military forces was of the essence as it signals a message of peace to the people of South Sudan.
“Yes Nyamilepedia, Yesterday, 10th November 2018 Brig. Gen. Moses Lokujo, SPLA-IO Brigade 3 Commander, Division 2B of Sector 8 based in Yei River State sent a military advance team to meet with his counterparts in the SSPDF at Sokare in Kajo-Keji County to send a signal of peace which is a prerequisite for confidence building in the peace process” said Goodwill.
He described the meeting between the forces as “fruitful” and the two army forces on both sides agreed to have another meeting that will see SPLA-IO commanding officers meeting face-to-face with the SSPDF military leaders.
“The meeting was fruitful and the two forces agreed to have another meeting which will involve Brig. Moses Lokujo and other top military officers from both sides” he noted.
The main opposition group, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army in Opposition (SPLM/A-IO) encouraged the people of South Sudan particularly the most affected population to remain optimistic and assured them that the protracted civil war is coming to an end.
“Therefore, we want to assure our citizens particularly the IDPs in PoCs, the refugee camps and the diaspora that, peace is returning to the state and beyond. We encourage them to be optimistic that the suffering is coming to an end and that soon they will return home” he said.
On the 8th November 2018, SPLA-IO military team from Yei River State met with their SSPDF counterparts in Yei Town in which they agreed to restore security within the State. The team also had a courtesy visit to H.E. Emmanuel Adil Anthony who assured them of his government’s commitment to implement the R-ARCSS.
