South Sudanese Civil Society in Uganda elects new leaders, calls for unity

December 19, 2018 (Kampala) — The Network of South Sudanese Civil Society Organizations in Uganda (NoSSCOU) has elected new leaders for 2019 today during its 5th  annual general assembly election in Ugandan capital, Kampala.

The general assembly election was chaired by the outgoing Coordinator Mr. Tito Anthony who is the Executive Director of Centre for Peace and Justice (CPJ).

Results of the election confirmed Mr. Ter Manyang Gatwech, who is currently the Executive Director of the International Youth for Africa (IYA), as the new coordinator of the Network.

Speaking to the newly elected NoSSOU Coordinator, Ter Gatwech, who spoke highly of soliciting support for the recently signed R-ARCISS, he said the civil society groups are ready to lead initiatives to building confidence among the local people of South Sudan including refugees in neighboring countries like Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and Sudan.

“The ownership of the R-ARCSS is critical in effective implementation in the country.” Ter said.

Juol Nhomngek, the newly elected deputy Coordinator says, there is needs for wide spread dissemination of the R-ARCSS to make sure that the people of South Sudan including the refugees understand and support it.

Biel Boutros Biel, an observer for NoSSCOU says the elections were free and fair and stood as an example to all South Sudanese Civil Society.

The newly elected executive committees for the Network of South Sudanese Civil Society Organizations in Uganda were elected as follow::

  2. Juol Nhomngek,  Deputy Coordinator
  3. Bishop Mulla Finisher,  Secretary General
  4. Bathumi Ayul,  Information Secretary  
  5. John Penn,  Deputy Secretary  
  6. Maria Nyagai,  Finance Secretary   
  7. Kuol Arou Kuol,  Deputy Finance
