May 6th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan Human Right groups call for South Sudan government to stop killing civilians in Leer and Mayandit Counties and condemn the inhumane targeting of civilians in the strongest term possible. Thousands of civilians have been killed and forced out from their homes by government forces since the civil war begun in South Sudan. Within the last two weeks it has been reported that civilians in Leer and Mayandit have repeatedly been killed and raided by armed men of now known as Southern Liech state burning homes and raped women. We believe that this is politically motivated killing; Mayandit County is hometown of former vice-president Riek Machar, now the head of the armed opposition leader.
The kiir regime is violating the international law by killing innocent civilians. Sources on the ground have confirmed that this scorched-earth policy is conducted under the watchful eyes of current southern Liech governor supported by commissioner of Koch County. Instead of conducting politically motivated prosecutions against Leer and Mayandit county population; the government needs to demonstrate its commitment to peaceful resolution and protect civilians.
South Sudan Human Right groups calls on South Sudan government to respect its own constitution and consider the international law.
South Sudan Human Right group’s calls on the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights UNHCHR, European Union, United States of America, Troika, African Union, all the international human rights organizations, Faith based groups and human rights activists to use their power and immediately intervene and stop prosecutions of innocent civilians in Leer and Mayandit Counties.
