Dec 2, 2017(Nyamilepedia) — On November 25, 2017, the Nuer society learned about the now, former Nuer Youth Society (NYS) ’s Chairman having attended a meeting, which consisted of individuals supporting the genocidal regime of Salva Kiir and Taban Deng. The regime has and continue to pose existential threats toward the Nuer population. It is a known fact that Salva Kiir and Taban Deng’s regime has made it a state policy to not only cause instability in the greater Nuer areas in South Sudan but continues to pursue policies that are threatening to the future of the Nuer people.
Nuer Youth Society (NYS) came into existence as an advocacy organization to spread facts about the terror the government systematically introduced to Nuer people starting on December 15th, 2013 when more than 20,000 Nuer civilians were mercilessly massacred in Juba, South Sudan, irrespective of age, gender or creed but to also help Nuer youth maintain their cultural identity and empower the youth in South Sudan and the diaspora. Such action by the former Chairperson is against the interest Nuer Youth Society (NYS) and the Nuer society at large.
Once the Nuer Youth Society (NYS) office learned about the former Chairman having attended such meeting and saw a photo consisting of the former Chairman among supporters of Salva Kiir and Taban Deng’s murderess regime, an office meeting was convened via teleconference followed by a general meeting inclusive of individuals with birthrights to the Nuer society.
Nuer Youth Society (NYS) leadership concluded that such action by a member is not only against the interest of the Nuer people but is also explicitly condemned by NYS’ bylaws, which states that a member shall lose membership if he/she “Engages in activities that undermine the objectives, policies and the interest of NYS”. (Title: Membership of the NYS shall be lost if a member, Section 1). This, resulted in the leadership relieving Mr. Diew Makuach of the chairmanship duties and handing over all NYS matters to Khan Nyuon Kawang as he was the Deputy Chairman.
Furthermore, the NYS leadership concluded that a fact-finding investigation into the matter surrounding the nature of why the former chairman attended such meeting without the knowledge of the leadership is to be conducted by an independent body, which will be appointed by Khan Nyuon Kawang, the new Chairman. This independent body will have until approximately December 17, 2017 to present their findings in a meeting (Time and venue TBA).
We, in the leadership will continue to stand and fight not only for the interest of Nuer Youth but Nuer people at large for the fight declared by the Juba regime against us rages on but please rest assured that we will prevail.
